Nintendo's New Super Mario Strikers Kicks Some Serious Grass!

REDMOND, Wash., Nov. 30, 2005 – Perhaps more people in the United States would be soccer fans if the field were surrounded by an electrified fence, players were armed with giant attack shells and goals were scored with explosive force. Rest assured, you won't find any boring scoreless ties in the new Super Mario® Strikers, which launches Dec. 5 in the United States, Canada and Latin America, exclusively for Nintendo GameCube™.

This isn't your usual Marioâ„¢ game. Up to four players can battle in aggressive five-on-five soccer matches that would elicit red cards from the most lenient of referees. Tackling and power shots are all part of the fun. If players gets in your way, just slam them into the electric fence that marks the out-of-bounds area. But such attacks come at a price: If you strike a player who does not have the ball, you reward the opposing team with a special Power-Up item that could be used against you.

"People have described this frenetic game as soccer meets Super Smash Bros.," says George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. "Soccer remains one of the most popular sports in the world, and Super Mario Strikers gives players the tools they always wished they could unleash on their opponents."

Super Mario Strikers features classic Nintendo characters, but with some serious attitude. Players can battle against friends or work their way up through the rankings to unlock bonus features like new stadiums and hidden cheats. The game, Rated E for Everyone, will be available Dec. 5.

Well not alot of new info. on this game if any. But will you be getting this game? I think I might Im not sure.

Mark Your Calendars

Nintendo has now announced a date when it will reveal all things Revolution. May 9, 2006 is the date they picked to reveal "all the incredible details about Nintendo's upcoming games and hardware". The showing is the date of Nintendo's pre-E3 confrence, and we can only expect more details to flow out afterwards as well. Nintendo picked the date in an e-mail sent out today. Exciting news for Nintendo fans, and I swear someone will be hurt if they don't show any gameplay videos and trailers this E3.

Nintendo Revolution virtual console patent uncovered?

Click here to see the photo

Revolution Report recently came across a patent filed by Nintendo which may possibly be related to the Virtual Console function of the company's next-generation console, code-named Revolution.

The patent in question is rather long-winded, but a summary of the key points and how they could relate to Virtual Console have been provided below (Note: "Figures" relate to respective images presented towards bottom):

* The patent refers to a series of emulator programs, meaning that should this patent refer to Virtual Console, the "first game machine" (which we assume refers to Revolution) has no dedicated hardware for Virtual Console titles. (Figure 4)

* According to the images and descriptions provided within the patent, when deciding to play and/or download a title, the player will select the game by platform or franchise. Also, for games existing without a definite franchise, the patent indicates an "other" tab to select from that may accommodate those particular titles. (Figure 9)

* When choosing a game, the player will apparently click once to bring up a screen displaying an outline of the game which uses animations, still pictures, a sentence description and/or sounds, and then click again to confirm the selection. (Figure 18)

* Particular downloaded games will prompt the player to choose a number of displayed characters before engaging in gameplay, perhaps even characters that might not be normally attributed to that particular game. This notion coincides with what Nintendo President Satoru Iwata said back in June, stating that Nintendo is "doing several experiments, including working with the original Super Mario Bros.," and that "the game itself and the gameplay shall be identical, but the look will be different; it's possible that with Revolution, we may be able to see the old games with new looks." (Figure 22)

* According to the patent, this technology will allow for older game programs to be supplied to the player at a low cost without the added burden of program-implanting costs for the game program maker. However, the patent in question does not further specify the exact meaning of "low cost."

* For the NES and SNES consoles, those "extremely low in capability," the Revolution's CPU has the capacity to handle the processing of the downloaded game without the involvement of the GPU.

* No unnecessary re-coding is required to get downloadable games to work with this technology, according to the patent.

True or false? I must say I belive true on this one. What about you guys?

Nintendo's net falls 21%, hurt by console sales

(Wall Street US)Nintendo Co has posted net profit of YEN36.63bn ($308.3m) for the first half, down 21% from YEN46.45bn in the previous year. The Japanese video game company blamed the sharp drop in earnings to higher expenses and weaker sales of game software and videogame consoles. Sales of the GameCube console in North America dipped 36% to 630,000 units, partly due to hesitation by consumers to buy new units ahead of the upcoming release of next-generation consoles.

That is not good news for Nintendo Fans. Discuss!

Nearly Half Of Mario Kart DS Owners Play Via Wi-Fi In First Week

Nov. 22, 2005 - In its first week of availability, a whopping 45 percent of people who bought the new Mario Kart® DS racing game for Nintendo DS™ already have test driven its free Wi-Fi capabilities, setting a new industry standard. This remarkable play rate of Mario Kart DS demonstrates both the easy setup and access of Nintendo® Wi-Fi Connection, Nintendo's new wireless gaming service, as well as the fun game play that has always characterized the Mario Kart series.

On Nov. 14, Mario Kart DS became the first game to use Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Through the end of Sunday, more than 112,000 people in the United States had purchased the game. In the same time frame, nearly 52,000 unique users had logged onto Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection to play against people from all over the country.
Video game fans have high praise for the addictive fun of Mario Kart DS and the simplicity of Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Many report that they can't stop playing.

"From the user-end, this is the easiest way to get online in video games," writes popular video game blog Kotaku.com. "The Wi-Fi integration is seamless. It's as easy as clicking multiplayer on the menu and joining the game."

Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection lets users easily connect to the service at no additional charge using both home wireless networks and select Wi-Fi hotspots, without any complicated setup procedures.

Upcoming titles that use Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection include Animal Crossing®: Wild World on Dec. 5 and Metroid® Prime Hunters on March 20. The buzz for Animal Crossing: Wild World already has reached a fevered pitch. Four notoriously difficult game raters at Weekly Famitsu, Japan's leading video game magazine, scored it 37 out of a possible 40 points.

This is really good news for Nintendo Fans! Keep playing online!

Has Nintendo revealed everything there is to know about Revolution?

This week's question: Do we know everything there is to know about Revolution? And on a related note, when will you reveal the final pieces of the puzzle?

A:George Harrison, senior vice president, marketing and corporate communications, Nintendo of America: No, we have not entirely pulled back the curtain on Revolution just yet. There are lots of exciting details about its capabilities and the unique gameplay you'll experience on it that we're keeping under wraps -- for now. We know you're very anxious to learn the full potential of the system, and soon we'll be able to share more with you!

Keeping some Revolution cards close to our chest is a strategic decision on Nintendo's part. Every Nintendo console launch in the past has been shrouded in some level of secrecy due to Nintendo's desire to innovate and provide new gaming features and technology. With Revolution, this could be the most innovative product Nintendo has ever created in the history of the company. So even though we've already shown you the basics on Revolution, you can be sure that there are still a few more surprises we're holding for a later date.

When? You'll slowly begin to know more as we enter 2006 and as the year unfolds, and especially at E3, you'll be immersed in Revolution news.

We'll be eager to hear what you have to say and think you'll be pleased with what's in store around the corner!

Well there you have it we will learn more soon.

Nintendo Planning Zelda Movie?*update*

As most of you know there has been rumors that a Zelda movie is coming out. Well now I think by this it is true. Read below for more info.

News hot off the gaming press include plans for making a motion-picture based on the undeniably beloved Legend of Zelda series. Mexican magazine Club Nintendo, basically the Spanish-language equivalent of Nintendo Power, quoted Nintendo executive vice-president of sales and marketing Reggie Fils-Aime as saying that the company is indeed planning a Zelda film.

Knowing that the magazine is published by Nintendo themselves, it's difficult to question the authenticity of this report. In addition, Fils-Aime also mentioned the current back-stage efforts on the Metroid movie. With that, there was also pre-done notions discussing a Zelda film after that, with another Mario motion-picture possibly following.

Although the news may be a bit disheartening knowing that the Metroid movie has yet to begin production, the Zelda film may still be possible if the Samus Aran-based motion picture proves anticipated and successful.

Take this piece of news with a grain of sort, although knowing that the possibility still remains will have gamers giddy for the years to come.

Mage Knight to Fight on DS

Just as you've mastered the portable strategy of titles like Advance Wars: Dual Strike, Namco arrives with its own turn-based offering. The company today announced Mage Knight: Destiny's Soldier, a title based on WizKids' collectible miniatures franchise.

The game will use the DS touch screen to let players directly pick up units, deploy forces, issue commands, and roll dice -- simulating the tabletop version of Mage Knight.

"Mage Knight: Destiny's Solider should appeal to those familiar and unfamiliar with the Mage Knight franchise," said Jeff Lujan, business director at Namco Hometek Inc. "The sheer amount of storytelling, strategy gameplay, and army customization is a testament to how deep and rich the Mage Knight universe really is. We are very excited to bring this unique and innovative tabletop gaming experience to the Nintendo DS."

Destiny's Soldier is currently scheduled for release in spring 2006. Look for more on the title as news comes in.

This is some really good news as I I like the Advance Wars series.

Nintendo Announces Play Control System For Next Hardware.

REDMOND, Wash., Nov. 16, 2005 – Nintendo of America today announces it will include a play control system in its next home video game system, code-named Revolution, coming in 2006.

By using a password-controlled setting, adults can decide what flexibility they'll allow younger players to have in playing video games rated E (Everyone), E10+ (Everyone 10 and Older), T (Teen) or M (Mature). The system also ensures that dedicated adult gamers can opt to play without limitations.

How does it work? The actual game software will contain a code indicating the rating, which will activate the control system to remain locked or unlocked. The feature will be included in every Revolution console worldwide.

"Even though many Nintendo games are rated E, E10+ or T, we believe this kind of feature should be included in the hardware. It's the right thing to do," explains Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales & marketing. "Game ratings are on the front and back of every game package, so families can easily make a decision about whether a game is right for them."

Game ratings are determined by a consensus of at least three specially trained raters reporting to the Entertainment Software Ratings Board. ESRB raters are of various ages and backgrounds, and to ensure their objectivity, are not permitted to have any ties to the computer and video game industry. The rating system, in place since 1994, is frequently cited as an example for other industries to follow.

"Nintendo has added an important tool for families in Washington state and around the world," said Gov. Chris Gregoire. "This new option gives parents more information and more control over what video games their kids play and at what age."

Nintendo's next console will usher in a new era of video gaming. It will feature a controller designed to be used with either one hand or two, a first in the video game industry. The position and motion of the controller itself dictates the action on the television screen. A second, plug-in expansion gives hard-core gamers additional control for more in-depth game play.

Revolution will play both new game discs, as well as Nintendo GameCube™ discs. It also will have access to 20 years of fan-favorite games, including those from the Nintendo® 64, Super NES® and NES® eras.

Now the question for you guys is this a good thing?

What's Up with the New Look? The Method to Our Madness ...

Bringing More Fun and Entertainment to Nintendo.com

by NOA_Dano

A lot of people got jazzed about Reggie’s comment at e3 a few years ago about his mission to kick ass and take names. Well, he meant that inside of Nintendo too, and he’s pushing our team to try new things and execute with more excellence.

I was happy to hear it when Reggie said he was a big fan of our websites. But, he wanted them to be even better, especially the flagship at Nintendo.com. “We’re an entertainment company. You guys need to bring more fun to the site. You create all these cool game microsites, but how do people know about them? How can you get to them from Nintendo.com?”

Ow. Who am I again?

We went back to our offices and cubicles and started planning. For entertainment and fun, we looked to our game microsites. Sure, the Flash activities that we create for these sites pale in comparison to the actual games, but site visitors love this stuff. (Hey, we like it too—just try to beat Casey’s high score on the DK King of Swing Rock Toss game!) Plus, these activities tell players about our Nintendo titles in a fun way.

We looked back at our e3 coverage, which had an immediacy and personality that we usually didn’t try to put into Nintendo.com. It also had focus and simplified navigation on the home page that we liked a lot.

The tipping point was when the new Nintendo Power magazine came out. The new design, editorial voice and just plain cool factor in the magazine totally inspired us to get Nintendo.com caught up with what our friends down the hall were doing.

We combined all of these ideas into the site that you’re now looking at, and we think we’ve come up with a winner. You’ll now be able to see all the hottest games, game sites, flash games and videos right from the home page feature. We’re committed to ongoing editorial coverage from our Nintendo.com staffers as well as guest editorials from our counterparts from Nintendo Power magazine. Our system pages are now easier to use and focus on what makes each system great—the games! We also added even more community presence to the site, to bring out the fan voices that are so important to Nintendo’s success.

This is just the start. Keep checking back for even more exciting website news for Nintendo.com, and be sure to let us know what you like (and don’t like) about the new site in our NSider Forums.

The site is well um..better I guess, so go cheack it out!

Mark Rein Corrects Himself

A while back, Mark Rein, Epic Games' Vice President, bashed Nintendo's new controller for the Revolution and says that the controller would spawn, "gimmicky, crappy, cheap, I-wish-I-hadn't-bought-it games" but now in a interview, Mark Rein clarifies,"I actually said Nintendo's going to make amazing games. I never really passed a judgement on the controller itself. I think the controller's cool!"

He also corrected himself by saying, "I wasn't bashing Nintendo, I wasn't bashing the controller, I was really just saying that a byproduct of having a device like [the Revolution controller] is that people are going to make games that possibly are just there because of the controller, as opposed to being great games of themselves...Nintendo and some of the best third parties are going to make amazing games for [Revolution]."

Concerning his statements about the graphical power in the next generation race, he clarifies, "what I meant to say was the most significant improvement we get, the best new thing about the next-generation systems, in my opinion, is the graphics. And that's a hardware discussion - not a game discussion."

Rein also stated that he would enjoy to see the Unreal Engine 3 on the Revolution. "Unreal Engine 3 and [the] Nintendo Revolution would be very well suited to each other," and "if the machine can run the engine, it'd be fantastic to have it on there."

Lastly, Rein commented on Merrick's challenge about making a game using the controller, and Rein complies, "absolutely love to take [Merrick] up on that."

Rare Comments On Nintendo's System

In an interview with 1up Duncan Botwood had to say this about the Nintendo Revolution

"We could make [Perfect Dark Zero] work [on the Revolution], but there'd be some changes to the gameplay, I expect; the controller looks like it might lend itself towards a light gun style of shooting, which would be a fresh approach. Personally, I'd like to try using the controller for an hour or more, the length of play session I had when I played Wind Waker, for example...it doesn't look that comfortable to me at first glance. Most people don't use TV remote controls constantly for a whole hour, let alone wave them in the air all that time. I'm skeptical, but that's tempered by my respect for Nintendo and my past experience of working with their controllers."

Smaller DS This Spring?

A recent interview of Reggie Fils-Aime reviels that Nintendo has looked into the idea of making the DS smaller.

"As soon as [the DS] was launched, we started looking at ways to tweak it visually."

A recent issue of a Swedish magazine, Gamereactor, has a rumour that states that a "smaller and better" model of the DS will be out in Spring of 2006. Don't get your hopes up but this is a likely possiblity. With the Revolution coming out next year anything could happen.

Merrick Discusses Nintendo of Europe's Plans

Now how many Europe fans do we have here?

As the rollout of the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection goes underway in both the U.S. and Europe, consumer site Eurogamer has spoken to Nintendo of Europe VP of Marketing Jim Merrick at the Nintendo Europe Summit on the company's plans for the service, as well as the next-gen Revolution system.

"We talked about the promise of Wi-Fi when we first introduced DS and now we can show you, with Mario Kart and with Tony Hawk, what Nintendo's vision of online gaming is," said Merrick, in reference to the company's long-in-coming online plans. The company produced its own online adapter for the GameCube, in both dial-up and broadband variants, but adapter was released in limited quantities and only ever supported by Phantasy Star Online and its sequel.

The Wi-Fi Connection will also be supported by the Revolution, though Merrick cautioned that it "has a lot of different requirements and capabilities." In addition to the already announced retro gaming applications -- the system will be able to download games from Nintendo's entire back catalog at still-unspecified prices -- the company was looking at using the online features to offer video and audio clips. "When I talk about music and movies, I mean you might download a trailer for a game, or in-game music," said Merrick. "But our business is interactive entertainment - we're not looking to be the home multimedia broadband portal, they can fight over that."

Other features of the Revolution, which Merrick confirmed is still just a codename and not the actual name of the system, are its ability to handle both normal-sized Revolution discs as well as the small GameCube media without an adapter, and its expandable 512MB of flash memory.

Speaking on software development for the system, Merrick said that no MMORPGs were currently in the works from Nintendo due to different design styles, but that third-party companies, possibly including Konami's Kojima Productions, were at work on Revolution games. Though Merrick would not confirm any individual titles, he reiterated that there would be playable games at next year's Electronics Entertainment Expo: "I would be very disappointed if I went to E3 and didn't play Revolution games, wouldn't you?"

The last thing Merrick mentioned was potential release dates for the Revolution, which may be sooner rather than later in terms of a European release. Acknowledging that Europe is traditionally the last territory to get new consoles, Merrick pointed out that the gap between Japanese and European launch was only 14 weeks, and Nintendo is aiming to shorten it for the Revolution launch. "We're very serious about trying to be a more global company and not follow the stereotypical formula of Japan first, then the US, then Europe some time later." Thanks once again to Eurogamer for the quoted material.

Well ow we know we will see some revolution games at the next E3!

Australian Nintendo Wi-Fi information

I really don't know how many Australian's come to this site if any. But anyway I was post the news.

Nintendo has officially announced today that Wi-Fi access for the Nintendo DS will commence on the 17th November. The first wireless games are, as expected, Tony Hawk's American Sk8land and Mario Kart DS.

Nintendo Australia will be installing Nintendo Wi-Fi connection hotspots in a number of public places that will offer complimentary access to Nintendo's online world. The hotspots will also feature downloadable Nintendo DS game demos and a special Nintendogs function that allows Nintendogs owners to experience 'Bark mode' without having someone else physically there to play with.

The Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection hotspots will initially be available across 26 Australian retail locations, including selected Electronics Boutique, Myer and Dick Smith Powerhouse stores. The 26 hotspots will be rolled out from the 17th of November, and conclude by November 30th. A full list of participating stores will be available soon on www.nintendowifi.com.au.

When a user brings a Nintendo DS unit and a Wi-Fi-enabled game into a participating store, the user simply launches the game in Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection mode. No setup is required.

From home, if the user already has a Wi-Fi network, the Nintendo DS unit will connect directly to it with minimal setup procedures. Those who have a high-speed Internet connection such as cable or DSL, but no wireless network, can use the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB connector, which will plug into the USB port of a PC running Windows XP to create a wireless access point to connect a Nintendo DS to Nintendo Wi-Fi connection. The Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector will be sold exclusively through Nintendo Australia, at a price of $AU49.95. There will be no charge for postage and handling for deliveries in Australia. This can be ordered by calling Nintendo Australia on 03 9730 9822.

Finally, Nintendo DS owners who want to play games at Wi-Fi locations outside of dedicated Nintendo Wi-Fi connection hotspots or their home can use a laptop computer and the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB connector to access the Nintendo Wi-Fi connection. The Nintendo Wi-Fi USB connector enables the Nintendo DS to share an Internet connection established by a PC, providing a conduit to play games via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

Well this is preatty much the same thing as it is here in the US.

Nintendo hints at coming price war

Revolution may lowball competitors to help attract consumer eyes.

NEW YORK (CNN/Money) – While the Xbox 360 is going to be dominating the media spotlight for the next few weeks (and possibly months), senior officials at Nintendo are quietly planting the seeds of Revolution.

Nintendo's next generation video game machine won't be out until 2006, but Reggie Fils-Aime, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Nintendo of America hinted this week the company might have a surprise up its sleeve.

Microsoft's Xbox 360 has adopted a two-tier price strategy ($299 for a bare bones version and $399 for a souped-up machine). Sony, meanwhile, has shouted from the rooftops the PS3 would be a pricey piece of equipment. Nintendo, though, seems ready to lowball its competitors on the retail front.

"Value has been a key card for us this generation and we'll continue to play it," Fils-Aime told me. "Do I expect us to be at a lower price point than our competition? Yes I do. Have we determined a price yet? No we haven't."

Nintendo employed this strategy at the beginning of this round of the console wars in 2001. While Sony and Microsoft released their video game machines at $299, the GameCube initially sold for $100 lower. Ultimately, the move didn't work as well as hoped. The GameCube is third in hardware sales, behind PlayStation 2 and Xbox, a position typically blamed on a weaker portfolio of third-party games and (initially, at least) the machine's boxy design, which even senior officials acknowledge looks childlike.

"I think there were some lessons we learned with the GameCube that we need to apply to the Revolution," said Fils-Aime. "First, we've got make sure that the titles in the first six months are strong and can drive sales. We've also got to make sure the console is attractive visually. And we've got to deliver on the right consumer needs. With GameCube, at the time, portability was thought to be a big factor – that's why it has a handle. Obviously, that wasn't the case."

The Revolution (which will likely to be called something else when it hits store shelves) is aimed at a wider audience than the GameCube or any of Nintendo's previous systems. While it will play DVD movies (a departure for the company), its primary focus will be games. The Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 will focus strongly on games as well, of course, but have their eyes on a bigger prize – digital domination of the living room. Nintendo has said it wants, instead, to attract people who do not consider themselves gamers.

There are still plenty of mysteries about the Revolution, of course. And given Nintendo's proclivity for secrecy, we won't know many of those answers until mid-next year, at least. For example, will the Revolution ship with any of the auxiliary devices for the controller, a motion-sensitive unit that looks like a TV remote control? (Playing action titles, for instance, could almost demand a second device to facilitate movement in the game.) The answer? To be determined. "A lot of that will be driven by our first party games," said Fils-Aime.

One thing's for sure: The Revolution will not support high definition video, a marked divergence from the path Microsoft (Research) and Sony (Research) are taking. And it's not something the company is re-thinking, despite the fervent hopes of some hardcore gaming fans.

Casual and non-gamers, the company feels, are less interested in flashy graphics than enjoyable games. And the large files that go hand in hand with high definition video result in "almost interminably long" load times for games, said Fils-Aime, something that would also be detrimental to a mainstream audience.

"What we'll offer in terms of gameplay and approachability will more than make up for the lack of HD," he said.

As for existing products, don't be surprised if more facelifts are on the way for existing products. Nintendo unveiled a streamlined Game Boy Advance earlier this year (much along the lines of Apple's iPod Nano), dubbed the Game Boy Micro.

The logical choice for the next facelift would be the Nintendo DS. Last year's hottest holiday gift has seen its popularity grow as Nintendo and third party publishers have put out increasingly appealing software, but the device itself is fairly ugly by gaming standards.

Fils-Aime hinted a revamped DS is in the works: "As soon as [the DS] was launched, we started looking at ways to tweak it visually."

One final note for holiday 2005 shoppers: While Nintendo seems set to be a price spoiler next year, don't look for the GameCube, Game Boy Advance or Nintendo DS to get any cheaper this year. There is "nothing planned right now" in terms of price cuts, according to Fils-Aime.

EAD Develops Cooking Sim for Revolution and Mario Kart DS Info

In an interview with Wired. com, Hideki Konno, the producer of Mario Kart DS, talked about a title that EAD are in development for the Revolution and also he talks about the most anticipated Nintendo DS game, Mario Kart DS.

The author talks to Konno-san about the controller for the Revolution, and how will his team adapted to them, and Konno-san says,

"Wow, that's a good question. We're thinking of so many different things. We're still at the stage where we're trying so many different things. We're doing things with big, expansive movements and smaller, more concise movements. It's hard to narrow it down to one over the other.

Did you see the Tokyo Game Show video? We actually have things using the movements you saw. Like the cooking game. We have this game with a big wok that you use to cook Chinese food, and it's really interesting to have the meat and vegetables frying in there, and use the controller to flip the food around without it spilling out of the pan."

EAD is already at work with the Chinese cooking sims for the Revolution, and the title that their making will bring in a new genre.

Konno-san discussed about Mario Kart DS, especially about the LAN and online.

"The local wireless network game and the wi-fi mode look the same. But there was a big difference in the actual development of those systems, which are unique and different. Our goal with wi-fi was to make it as close as possible to the local wireless gameplay: visual appearance, easy access, good framerate, gameplay, etc.
But while the ability to have a shell or three bananas dragging behind you looks easy, actually it's something very difficult to accomplish. We'd really pushed it. I think we probably could have done it, but it was just one of those areas where we had to say, 'we're gonna stop here.'We didn't go the extra step."

In an interesting statement, he talks about a special mark that will seperate them from the skilled players.

"Something will happen after you play the game for a certain amount of time, and your player will be identified by… something. Other players will say, 'wow, that guy must be really good because of that thing he has.'"

And before the interview, he states, "If you look at the volume of Mario Kart DS, in every aspect of the game… I think we've done it. We've surpassed Super Mario Kart."

Mart Kart DS comes out in less than a week as well as Nintendo's new online service, Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Friend Code - Explaination

" (Written by: Matt Ducky)

See how it works inside.

Manually Exchanging Friend Code: Nintendo WFC users must get their unique Friend Code from each Nintendo DS Wi-Fi game. See your game instruction manual for how to access your Friend Code. This is a 12-digit code.

Once you have your Friend Code, you must exchange it with your friend outside of online play (over the phone, email, in person, etc.). You must give your Friend Code to your friend, and they must give you his or her Friend Code. Please note that your Friend Code will be different for each game you play on the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

Once you have a code from a friend, you must add/register his or her code into your Nintendo DS Wi-Fi game. Your friend must enter your code into his or her game as well. Not until you each have the other's code in your game, will you be recognized as friends online.
Important note:The Nintendo WFC ID and the game card are treated as a unit. Because of this, playing your Nintendo DS game card in another Nintendo DS system may override all of your online information saved to the game card, including your own personal Friend Code. Other players with this Friend Code would no longer be able to identify you as an online friend until you provided them with the new Friend Code you would need to generate. We recommend against playing your Nintendo WFC-compatible DS game cards in any one else's Nintendo DS system.

If you receive a message that you are unable to connect to the Nintendo WFC because the Wi-Fi ID from the Nintendo DS and the Game Card do not match, you are using a game card that was set up with another Nintendo DS. We recommend that you play your game in the same Nintendo DS that the game card was set up in.

If you wish to permanently use the game card in a new Nintendo DS, you should first transfer the WFC ID from the old DS to the new DS. This will keep your Friend Code and Friends Roster intact.

If you do not transfer the WFC ID to the new DS, you will need to erase the Nintendo WFC ID from the game card.

Important! When you connect again to the Nintendo WFC, a new friend code will be generated for the game. If the previous Friend Code from the game was exchanged with other players, you will need to provide your new Friend Code to anyone you wish to continue playing with online. No changes or updates will need to be made to your Friends Roster.

Mario Kart DS racing explained.

To play against friends, you must first exchange Friend Codes. Click here for information on how to do this.

Once you have Friends Codes entered, select "Nintendo WFC," from the main menu, and then "Nintendo WFC Match." Tap "Yes" to connect to Nintendo WFC. Once connected, you will have the option to select the type of opponent you wish to race against (Friends or Rivals) or what location you want to select players from (Regional or Worldwide).

Select the "Friends" option, the DS will search for other players from your Friend Roster who are waiting. Once connected, you will be able to choose your race tracks, and then the races begin!

What is the difference between Friend, Rival and Stranger play in Mario Kart DS?
Friends: Friends play is used when you wish to race against those players you have added to you Friends Roster. By selecting the Friend mode when playing online, other "non-friend" players are not able to join that person in online play.

Rivals: Nintendo's Wi-Fi Connection is able to keep track of your stats and determine your skill level. By selecting to play against a rival, player's are matched up with others with similar skill levels.

Regional Play: When you select Regional Play, you are matched up against anyone else who is playing within your region (i.e. North America), regardless of skill level or friend status.

Worldwide: When selecting Worldwide, you are matched up against anyone else who is online, regardless of skill level or friend status."

NOA releases Wi-Fi details

Here's the article from DSA about the Wi-Fi info. "Nintendo of America has issued an official press kit regarding their upcoming online gaming service, the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. The press releases reiterate Nintendo's aim at creating a fast, free, easy to use, accessible online network for users to play multiplayer games with friends across the globe.

Details regarding the setup of the service were made available today. On the homefront, if a person has an already equipped wireless router, the Nintendo DS will easily connect to the existing wireless network with minimal setup required. The console will ask for applicable information pertaining to the user's WEP information.

In the technical sense, WEP stands for Wired Equivalency Privacy, in that it inhibits outside user's from accessing a particular wireless network. The DS will contain all the applicable data fields to allow for the system to access the internet from an protected wireless router. Those who do not encrypt their wireless signal will not be required to enter this information, as the portable will connect regardless.

If a wireless router is not an option, the planned Nintendo Wi-Fi USB adapter will allow users with broadband internet to connect to the service. This USB device plugs into the applicable port on standard, current generation PCs. The software will require the user to have Windows XP installed to function correctly. Once installed, the software will easily connect the DS to the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

When outside the home, the service is designed to function differently. If the user is at a Wayport equipped McDonald's, the Nintendo DS will connect to the online network without any setup required. A full listing of the over 6,000 locations will be available shortly at www.nintendoWiFi.com.

In relation to other Wi-Fi hotspots, connection to the service will require both a laptop and a Nintendo Wi-Fi USB adapter. The setup procedure will then be similar to those accessing the service from their home without a wireless router. Access to these hotspots regularly requires a fee, although free Wi-Fi is becoming increasingly prevalent. Laptop use is mainly required due to the nature of these hotspots. Each individual location has their own setup procedure, and may require additional software asides from that of the USB adapter.

Additionally, Nintendo also announced that the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB adapter will be sold exclusively through Nintendo.com on November 14th for $34.99."

Nintendo won't release Revolution's specs

In a interview with [N]gamer, Jim Merrick discussed about the specs for the Nintendo Revolution and here's what he had to say, "regarding the specifications, we will probably never 'release' this information as we feel that it is largely irrelevant."

"While some of our competitors enjoy comparing specifications, it has little or nothing to do with how satisfied the consumers will be with the system and the games once they are released. I know people are hungry for information on Revolution and we respect and appreciate that, but we don't want to contribute to the cloud of meaningless information that surrounds the next generation systems."

It looks like we won't here any specs about Nintendo's next-gen codename system, Revolution until E3 2006.

Rune Factory: New Harvest Moon

As most of you knew that there was going to be a Harvest Moon game for the DS. But how many really thought that it would have been Rune Factory? Not me.

"Launching sometime in 2006 alongside the PSP's Innocent Life: New Harvest Moon, Rune Factory is best described as Harvest Moon with swords. The player will be able to catch monsters to breed on their farms as well as grow crops as in any other Harvest Moon game. Making its debut in the Harvest Moon series is online play, obviously being multiplayer. Take a look at the first images below."

Wi-Fi gaming for the Nintendo DS won't be free at Mcdonalds? *Update*

on Mcdonald's official website, they say that they will charge for Wi-Fi access. They wrote, Currently, the recommended pricing for a one-time connection is $2.95 for 2 hours of surfing."

If you look at Nintendo's philosophy on Wi-Fi gaming and access, you will see that Nintendo is for free access for Wi-Fi gaming. Nintendo might make sure that this charge won't effect the DS online plan they made with Mcdonalds, but right now we're still in the dark.

[Update]
If you are still worrying about Mcdonald charging fee for Wi-Fi, then stop worrying because a Nintendo representative has announced that you can DS Wi-Fi at Mcdonalds for free.

More Revolution news

Jim Merrick has more news for us today as he talks about the Revolution sequel games and he will talk about the Revolution's controller. Merrick says that Mario Revolution, Super Smash Bros. Revolution, Metroid Prime 3, and the Zelda Revolution titles are progressing well. Merrick comments about the comparsion of Revolution controller and a traditional controller, and he said the controller shell will not only play for retro game. He states,

"This option is there for new games that will be created that are most suited to a traditional style of controller. We are not trying to say that the ‘traditional’ controller design is not valid, in fact Nintendo is responsible for most of the features that are found on today’s traditional controller like the d-pad, analog stick, rumble, et cetera."

It would be great to see Mario Revolution, Zelda Revolution, and Metroid Prime 3 coming to the Revolution as launch titles, and Merrick's comment about the controller shell might calm some people down who do not like the new Revolution controller.

Big news for the Revolution *Update*

Here's some good news for the Revolution now. In an interview with Meristation, a spanish website, talked with NOE's Jim Merrick about Wi-Fi service in Europe and Revolution talk, as well.

Jim Merrick talked about Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, and he said Nintendo will release 25,000 hotspots across Europe for DS and Revolution compatible service. Merrick also confirmed the USB Wi-Fi adapters will be on shelves alongside Mario Kart DS on November 25 around 39.95 euros, and also that the adapter is compatible for the Revolution.

Now here's the big news for the Revolution. Merrick states that the Revolution will see a worldwide launch in 14 weeks; this means that the Revolution will be released in Japan, North America, and Europe within 14 weeks. Multiplayer mode will be the same as Nintendo DS download play, where you only need one copy of the game to play with others (He might be talking about LAN). Merrick confirms that you can download any retro games that were on any of Nintendo's past systems from diffrent regions; meaning that you can be US or European Revolution owner and you could download games from a Japanese server. Also Merrick says that we won't see any Revolution games in 2005, but the graphics will be no different than the PS3 and Xbox360.

This sounds like some good news for the Revolution, and this might relive most of the Nintendo fanboys, who were worried about the Revolution's graphics.

[Update]
Another good news for Mario Kart DS, as the game will feature chatting option in the DS racing game. You talk with anyone who is on your "Friend List". if you want to see the full interview, then click here.
