THQ's low Revolution budget

Bad news for the Revolution, THQ has announced that they would concentrate their development resources for the PS3 and Xbox360 around an amazing 80 percent equally. Since THQ will give both Xbox360 and PS3 more budget, that leaves the Revolution a measly 20 percent. This might show that THQ has less expectation on Nintendo's next-gen console.

Killer 7 makers developing games for the Revolution

Killer 7 producer Gouichi Suda was talking to Nintendo Dream in a commentary about the Revolution controller. Also Suda-san liked the Revolution controller, and that his studio, Grasshopper Manufacturer and him has already planned a video game for the Revolution.

After Suda-san praised the Revolution controller, Suda-san also revealed that he's finalized plan for an original Revolution title. He says that we should except things to be extreme, and the title will use the controller heavily, and he said that this title will surpass Killer 7.

Translate of Mario Kart DS finish complete

You should follow along with the website or else you will not get it.

Mario Kart DS is outlined as one of the best and more complete deliveries of this saga and could even be in the first place.

It has nothing less than 32 circuits, 16 new and 16 classic although some with certain changes of design nothing else improving the original ones. Altogether we have 8 a priori glasses, each one of them with 4 layouts of the mentioned ones previously.

To part of the numerous glasses, there is a section of missions in which things like leading reverse gear between alleys can request us and happening below giant tires. Varied the truth and insurance enough that more hours of game add to him many.

Finally you have the battles, of globes and suns. And in this occasion (not as in Mario Kart Double Dash the Game Cube for example) yes it is possible to be played against the CPU.

The scenes are very many-colored and go from a Nintendo DS to a cake. So that you appreciate them better you can descargaros following the two videos:
video 1 video 2

In addition, in multiplayer it is almost the best title of Nintendo of DS. 8 players without no type of complication nor limitation, needing sólamente a cartridge and a console by user, as much for races as for combats. And of extra, the way online, that at heart is what less importance will have when lacking any type of mail system, reason why we will be able to be communicated with our rivals neither before, nor later, nor of course during the races.

All the classic personages of this game of conduction will be present and will have to their disposition at least 7 vehicles by each one of them, of who there will be enough hidden, although some will be repeated.

And to clear the set we have the use of the double screen, fundamental in this new version, and the appearance of new objects like the bullet or the squid.

Next we left to a small potpourri of images and two videos you so that you appreciate the quality of the great game that is when falling for Nintendo DS:

Nintendo and Gamespot and Nintendogs

Free Virtual Gift and Message from Haylie Duff Mark Donation to ASPCA

REDMOND, Wash., Oct. 26, 2005 – As if Halloween weekend didn't offer enough things to scream about, Nintendo and GameStop will offer owners of the wildly popular Nintendogs™ puppy communication program a free virtual gift. More than 3,600 GameStops across the country will play host to the Nintendogs Tricks and Treats Weekend event, which runs Oct. 28 through Oct. 30.

People who bring a Nintendo DSâ„¢ and a copy of Nintendogs to a GameStop location during the weekend can receive a virtual pair of star-shaped sunglasses for their puppies to wear in the game, along with a voice greeting from Napoleon Dynamite star Haylie Duff. The exclusive sunglasses will be delivered using Nintendogs' Bark Mode, and cannot be accessed in the game any other way.

And to demonstrate that virtual dogs can help out real-life ones, Nintendo and GameStop will donate $50,000 to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals.

"Nintendogs represents just one of the many ways that we're building communities and bringing people together through video games," said George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. "Through our partnership with GameStop, we can reward our countless fans for their loyalty and enthusiasm, which have made Nintendogs such a phenomenon."

"We are very excited about the promotion with Nintendogs, the ASPCA and GameStop," says Jack Beuttell, GameStop's senior vice president of marketing. "When Nintendo launched Nintendogs, the product was an immediate hit, as it appealed to a broad audience. Now we have an opportunity to give back to our animal friends to help make sure they are well cared for. We are delighted we can give something extra to our consumers in our stores."

"Animal shelters around the country are full of dogs of all shapes and sizes, and the process of adopting a dog is a tremendous decision that should not be taken lightly," said Matthew Bershadker, vice president of development for the ASPCA. "Nintendogs is a great way for people to test whether they are ready to handle the real thing. The ASPCA is grateful for the generous donation by Nintendo and GameStop."
The Nintendogs events takes place just after the Oct. 24 launch of the "Best Friends" Nintendogs bundle, which sells at an MSRP of $149.99. The special bundle comes with a new Teal or Pearl Pink DS and lets owners start with the six most popular breeds chosen from the three Nintendogs editions: Labrador retriever, golden retriever, German shepherd, beagle, Yorkshire terrier and miniature dachshund. As with the other editions, all 18 breeds are unlockable as owners progress. The bundle also includes a Nintendogs-branded Nintendo DS skin and a bone-shaped screen cleaner.

Nintendogs, Rated E for Everyone, launched in the United States on Aug. 22 and has sold more than 1.5 million units worldwide. Made exclusively for Nintendo DS, it lets owners train, care for and play with lifelike puppies. For downloads, images, video diaries and more information about Nintendogs, please visit www.nintendogs.com.

Edge previews the Revolution controller

At TGS 2005, Edge magazine, a UK gaming magazine, has previewed Nintendo's Revolution controller and they thought it was superb.

Edge states that the controller was"unthreatening and uncomplicated and begs to be picked up." They also said," It makes you feel like a magician, becoming so settled in your hand there might as well be nothing there." On the Revolution's physical surface, Edge said the controller had a soft rubbery on both the crook in the underside and the main action button. Even though, the the controller looks hard, sharp-edge, and slippery, but the controller will feel fine.

Edge addressed the "controller will make your arm tired" issue, as they said that the Revolution controller plays like a mouse, you just need to relax your arms gentle tilt and turn the controller. Edge also said that the Revolution's controller was too quick and too precise.

After they played with the Revolution's controller, the Xbox360 felt old fashioned, and playing with the PS2 DualShock controller didn't feel right.

Revolution Release June 06

According to Spong the Revolution will be released this upcoming June, 2006. Apparantly their sources have comfirmed this, and all of Nintendo is gearing up for the release now. The release date does make logical sense and has been hinted at for a long time, but until official confirmation, take this with a grain of salt. The pricing has also been generally speculated at around $200 USD. Hopefully this comes out to be true. It would also make sense as then Twilight Princess would be a major game to show off the Revolution's backwards compatibilty. More as it comes.

Iwata confirms near global Revolution launch

Nintendo's president Satoru Iwata has confirmed that the Revolution will be looking at a near worldwide release during a interview with Nikkei Business. Iwata also confirmed that the Revolution will release the Revolution after the month of the fiscal year (April), so that means we could see the Revolution be released in the summer time or the winter time during the holiday sale. Iwata-san also wanted too see the Revolution outsell the Gamecube, and the right now the Gamecube has sold 20 million units worldwide. If the Revolution does not pass the Gamecube sales, then Iwata-san said that the Revolution will be a "failure"; Iwata-san commented that if Nintendo were to make an amazing software for that would reflect the Revolution's controller, then it would be a definite possibility.

Tamagotchi DS Confirmed for US?

Just before the Tokyo Game Show this year, we got a peek at the new Tamagotchi for DS, called Tamagotchi Corner Store, and it was looking quite good. But lots of things look good at TGS that never see the light of day in the North America. Today Bandai issued a press release announcing this game in English - and for a release date this fall. That's soon, Bandai. That's, like, now.

"The original Tamagotchi struck a chord with kids who wanted a toy that complemented their active lifestyle, and these virtual pets were the perfect answer," said Reyne Rice of the Toy Industry Association in Bandai's statement. "Tamagotchi provides the nurturing play pattern with the electronic component and portability that allows kids to take the toy with them wherever they go."

With the new Tamagotchi game, designed by boutique developer Nana-On Sha, the creative minds behind Parappa the Rapper, players set up shop and play minigames to satisfy their customers and earn "gotchi" points. The stylus is a key component of many of the games.

More details will be available soon, so stay tuned.

Rumor: Mario Paint coming to the Revolution and DS [Update]

According to some video game sites, Nintendo has unofficially announced a DS version of Mario Paint, which was one of popular Nintendo game. The game is supossedly to be released sometime during the second half of 2006 (some video games sites are reporting that the game might tie in with the Revolution).

The title will feature three applications which are paint, animation, and music, or the three applications will be separated like Nintendo did with Nintendogs.

The new Mario Paint will be a community-building game and users will be able to share their creations with other DS users and Revolution users." The title will support WiFi, and the Revolution version will support 3-D modeling.

Remember that this news is just a rumor so take it witha grain of salt, and DS Update will keep you updated on this.

*Update*
I emailed a NOA representative, and he said that Nintendo has not made any announcements for Mario Paint on the Nintendo DS or Revolution, so we can safely say that this rumour has been shot down.

Tony Hawk American Sk8land to have downloadable content

IGN has a hands-on impression on Tony Hanwk American Sk8land for the Nintendo DS. IGN talked about the game's graphics touch screen capabilities, and the gameplay, but most imprtantly, IGN got to play around with Tony Hawk American Sk8land's online interface. You can play head-to-head with a friend or another player across North America, download the top scores and ghost data, and play "The Price is Wrong" where two players try to score as close asthey can on the setpoint scale. Also IGN discovered that Tony Hawk American Sk8land will have downloadable content, which that every week, Vicarious Visions could create custom challenges within existing skateparks that all players can play in and with the top scores and ghost data uploaded to the server so that the players can see how good they did.

Tony Hawk American Sk8land will be coming out November 14th, the same day that both Mario Kart DS and Nintendo WiFi Connection will be released. Remember to check out both WiFi DS games this holiday season.

Massive Response to Revolution

The Nintendo Revolution in Japan is being talk about! Check out what many famous developers had to say about the controller below.

"Ken Sugimori (Game Freak, art director of Pokemon): Sugimori was surprised when he first saw the controller. He feels that many people have been thrown off from gaming due to increased button counts of controllers, but states that it takes a good amount of courage to actually decide to reduce the number. "You'll be able to do things with the Revolution that you could never do with consoles before," he says, adding with a laugh, "Personally, it's the kind of hardware where, more than making games, I'd rather play them."

Kouichi Suda (president of Grass Hopper Interactive, the studio behind Killer 7): "In truth, I have yet to get my hands on Revolution," Suda admits, but adds that he expects to get some hands on time shortly. Once he saw the controller at the product announcement, he felt that there was no choice but to make games for it. "I've already finalized a plan. Now, all that remains is to make it." Judging by Suda's comments, we can probably add Grass Hopper to the list of Revolution developers.

Toshihiro Nagoshi (Sega -- producer of F-Zero GX/AX and Super Monkey Ball): "I was surprised when I saw it, I was surprised when I touched it, and when I played the sample games, I was even more surprised!" Nagoshi states. "I doubt that there's a creator who doesn't get tickled after getting their hands on this. It combines all the elements required to let you enjoy games while feeling that you've become the character." Continuing, Nagoshi states that he expects the controller to open up new paths for all genres.

Tooru Iwatani (Namco -- father of Pac Man): Iwatani feels that the Revolution controller is one of the solutions to interface problems with games, adding, "Just as input with the Nintendo DS pen gave birth to new game contents, there are great possibilities hidden in this remote-like controller." He gives a couple of examples of game ideas, including a text input style game that targets people who've become used to inputting text with their thumbs on the cell phone. The controller gives the creative spirit of game creators a jolt, Iwatani states before finishing up his comments by asking that Nintendo continue from here on out to stimulate gamers and creators alike in new ways.

Hironobu Sakaguchi (Mistwalker -- father of Final Fantasy): "When I first saw it, I thought 'It's great!' and 'It's just like Nintendo!' It makes you feel like you're actually touching the screen. In that sense, you could say that it's an extension of the DS, but it's actually very different." Pointing out that the controller allows for a wide variety of actions, he adds, "When shown such a new concept, software makers are, even as just normal people, left excited."

Yasuhiro Wada (Marvelous Interactive -- father of Harvest Moon): Wada was at first taken back by the controller. He found it to be small and nicely designed, but as a controller, it crossed the bounds of his understanding. Once he got his hands on it, he suddenly got the idea and felt that it would work. This is similar to how he felt with the DS -- the feeling of various ideas appearing one after the other. "As a creator, this is the ultimate toy," he states with a laugh, but also adds caution, saying, "A number of basic ideas come forth, but placing those properly into a game and making players have fun is difficult." Wada seems to love the controller, though, as he adds, "Isn't this the thing that will cause a revolution to the game industry, which has slowly lost its way?"

Takanobu Terada (Banpresto -- Super Robot Wars producer): "To be honest, I was expecting the Revolution controller to have an even more unique form, so I was initially disappointed. However, that quickly disappeared. With good use of the expansion terminal, isn't it possible to make, for instance, a versus shooting game without the use of the monitor, where the fight is through the controller alone? I feel that it is a great controller that can inspire many ideas, even aside from videogames."

Hiroshi Tanibuchi (Konami -- Powerful Pro series producer): Tanibuch states that he was surprised when he first saw the controller, adding "In truth -- and this is just between us -- I was able to get my hands on the controller. The on-screen characters move in accordance with the controller's movements -- it's such a fresh feeling. Although you probably won't understand until you've tried it yourself." On the topic of Japan's favorite baseball series, he suggests good things for a possible GameCube version: "If we were to make it, we'd want to make a special Power Pro for the Revolution."

Masahiro Sakurai (Sora -- previous work on Kirby, Smash Brother and Meteos): "I'm sympathetic for Nintendo's stance of reducing hurdles for games. For that reason, I think it's good that the controller buttons have been reduced to just one. A long remote controller shape with just one button. This has impact. The DS, with its touch screen, made games a ways easier to understand. However, with the D-pad and buttons, and also the touch panel, controls actually became more complicated. I think it would be good if the same thing doesn't happen with Revolution."

Kouichi Ishii (Square Enix -- World of Mana project producer): "I believe creators will enjoy making games [with the controller]. However, you'll have to change game design methods from the core. For instance, you'll have to start by looking back at your play as a kid and think of what kinds of things you could do if developing for the Revolution. If you can do this, then surely you will be able to make a completely new form of play, different from current games."

REDMOND, Wash., Oct. 19, 2005 – The Oct. 24 launch of Metroid® Prime Pinball will bring all the bumping, flipping and tilting of a real pinball table to a portable video game system. Metroid Prime Pinball, made exclusively for Nintendo DS™, includes the Nintendo DS Rumble Pak™, the first accessory that makes use of the secondary slot normally reserved for Game Boy® Advance games. The Rumble Pak is the same size as a Game Boy Advance game, and delivers vibrations of various intensity and duration to immerse the player in a realistic pinball experience.

Because the pinball is actually Metroid heroine Samus Aran in Morph Ball form, Metroid Prime Pinball delivers an earth-shaking experience beyond the usual pinball game. The Rumble Pak activates if the ball hits a bumper, or when Samus gets attacked by a host of nefarious Metroid enemies, such as Space Pirates, Metroids, the Omega Pirate, Meta Ridley and Metroid Prime.

"This first accessory to make use of the expansion slot of Nintendo DS demonstrates the system's versatility and potential," said George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications. "The Rumble Pak technology easily can be applied to future games, while the expansion slot could be used for a host of different peripherals. This is just the beginning, as Nintendo continues to explore creative ways for people to 'feel' their game experience."

The dual screens of Nintendo DS show off an expansive pinball playing area, and players can even tap the touch screen of the DS to "nudge" the table to keep the pinball in play. DS Download Play allows for the world's first simultaneous eight-player game using just a single game card. Players drop enemies onto one another's pinball boards as they race to hit a high score.

The Nintendo DS Rumble Pak also will be compatible with Mario & Luigiâ„¢: Partners in Time, which launches on Nov. 28. More information about Metroid Prime Pinball, Rated E for Everyone, can be found at www.metroidprimepinball.com.

Kojima develops on the Revolution

In the latest Game Informer magazine, they talked about the reactions of the Revolution's controller at TGS. The writers, who wrote the article, was concerned about the Revolution's controller, but the writer's concerns were lessened when he heard the developer's reactions, and Kojima-san seems to like the Revolution very much to make a video game.

"Despite these concerns, developers we talked to at TGS were very positive about the new controller, and Metal Gear creator Hideo Kojima is already working on a project for Revolution, being done by the Metal Gear Acid team."

In TGS, Nintendo showed a video of the Nintendo Revolution and after the video was over, Kojima-san praised Nintendo about the Revolution's controller, and he said that his team were looking into development, but now it seems that Kojima-san are already working on a Revolution title, but the Revolution title won't be a Metal Gear game.

This is great news for Nintendo and their next-gen console, as the Revolution are slowly gaining developer support.

The Revolution and Time

Time magazine recently made a list of 5 New Things that Will Blow Your Mind and the Revolution came in second place. Only second to the new Boeing 787 Dreamliner plan.

"When it comes to video-game controllers, Nintendo has always been an innovator. Back when Atari and its one-button joystick ruled, Nintendo devised a two-button controller with a directional thumb pad. Then came action-sensitive vibration, wireless connectivity and an analog stick for 360Ëš steering. Now the company hopes to shake things up with a wireless controller for next year's Revolution console that will allow players to apply real-world physical experience to games. The one-handed grip has motion and position sensors, so if you're playing a Ping-Pong game, you just flick the controller like a paddle. Or, to shoot, take aim and tap a button. For more elaborate games, a second piece with analog stick and two triggers (for that extra itchy finger) can be connected."

It looks like Nintendo is getting lots of praise from many sources, but will it make a differance in sales?

Candian Hotspots

Nintendo has partnered with Fatport, Canada's leading wifi distributer, to bring many wifi access points to Canada. The list is quite disappointing to most Canadians though as the majority of the access points are in Vancouver. Also the number of places getting wifi access points is also on the low side. It would be much better if Nintendo got the partnered chains to support wifi in all of each chains' stores. Anyways you can take a look at the upcoming wifi spots HERE.

Perrin Kaplain Interview

Gamecloud.com has set up an interview with Perrin Kaplain, Nintendo of America’s Vice President of Marketing and Corporate Affairs, and they asked questions about the Revolution controller, Revolution's launch date, Nintendo DS online service. Nintendo WiFi Connection.

Q.) First let's talk about the newly revealed Revolution controller. It's safe to say that no one expected the controller to look much like a television remote control. Can you give us an honest idea on how game developers are reacting to the look and features of the controller at this point?

Kaplan - We’ve demonstrated the Revolution controller with key folks around the industry prior to unveiling it at TGS, and the reaction was extremely positive. What really hooked them though was trying it out for themselves, seeing how incredibly intuitive it is and how players will be able to experience things like never before – such as sensing depth, using one hand, etc. It really is something you have to physically experience yourself to appreciate the impact the Revolution controller will have on the gaming industry.

Q.) At his keynote speech at TGS, Nintendo President Satoru Iwata stated that the controller was designed to be something that looked liked it belonged in a living room. Why does Nintendo believe this is needed in a video game controller, especially since the current two handed controller design has in some way also become a typical living room fixture?

Kaplan - With Revolution, Nintendo is looking to expand the video game market to all new players, in addition to keeping current gamers stimulated by something brand new. Though current hardcore gamers are accustomed to the standard joypad controller design there is something to be said for a controller that looks simple and less intimidating for any player. The goal of the Revolution controller is that its intuitive nature will appeal to literally everyone. And its experience is complex enough for even the most advanced game and gamer. We would like to see this controller in the same basket as all the other remotes. Easy to pick up and play.

Q.) While there was a chance for press at TGS to handle the Revolution controller, many people are wondering if Nintendo has tested the controller with people who love to play games for hours at a time. Is Nintendo confident that the controller will be comfortable with hardcore gamers who spent a lot of time playing games?

Kaplan - Yes, we’re quite sure that even the most hard-core, up-all-night gamers will find great enjoyment using the new Revolution controller. As with any activity, whether it’s typing on a keyboard or using a video game controller, routine breaks are always recommended. And due to the more physical nature of the Revolution controller, perhaps gamers will actually keep their blood circulation flowing a bit longer than previous game play sessions. Either way, we’ve chatted extensively with the journalists who have played with the controller for the first time at TGS – most of them hardcore gamers – and most felt that it would be perfectly comfortable sitting on a couch and blasting Metroids for extended periods of time. This is good news for the equally passionate gamers out there hoping to burn the midnight oil with Revolution.

Q.) Of course it’s ultimately all about the games for the Revolution that will really make the controller and the console stand out. Can you give us an idea of how many first party Revolution games are in development and how they might use the controller in unique ways?

Kaplan - Our message is for fans to stay tuned because at some point we’ll be sharing more about the games in development. But you can be certain that we’re hard at work on a number of first-party Nintendo Revolution launch titles that will be a gaming experience unlike anything you have ever played before. If I am wrong, anyone can tell me that later. But I think I’ll be right!

Q.) The Revolution may be the final console in the "next-gen" period (PS3-Xbox 360) to launch in the US. Do you believe that the Revolution will still be able to compete with Sony and Microsoft's new consoles in terms of sales and do better than the GameCube did in this country?

Kaplan - Until we see PS3 launch, it’s not accurate to say we’ll be last. But frankly, what’s most important is to never rush to market just to be first. Nintendo is all about gaming first and foremost, and the unique and innovative products we’re creating for Revolution will make our system a must-own for gamers both new and old no matter what other hardware is on the market. We’re currently working hard to secure all the necessary elements for a successful launch such as key first-party titles and solid third-party support when Revolution hits next year.

Q.) The Nintendo DS portable console has sold very well here in the US, even with the huge marketing push that Sony has been giving with its own PSP console. As the console closes in on completing its first year in the US, do you feel that the console has met Nintendo's expectations and also when will we learn more about the launch of the DS online network?

Kaplan - Nintendo is certainly thrilled with the level of support and sales success for the Nintendo DS. Recently we’ve seen an onslaught of great games for the system such as Nintendogs, Advance Wars, and Castlevania. More great games are on the way, especially as developers are getting used the amazing things you can do with touch screen, two screens, and voice recognition. But the best is even yet to come this holiday season when the Nintendo DS goes online with the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. We’re currently rolling out news on our free wi-fi plans as we speak, with more announcements to come. But you can look forward to experiencing it first-hand when the first-ever online Nintendo DS title ships in mid-November: Mario Kart DS. This game by itself is amazing, and the ability to race it online with your friends for free only makes it even better. And then other great wi-fi-enabled Nintendo DS titles will follow shortly after, including Animal Crossing DS, and Metroid Prime Hunters. So this holiday will be the best time for Nintendo DS owners yet.

Q.) Finally, the GameCube is likely in its final year before the Revolution is launched. We all know about the new Legend of Zelda game but what other exclusive titles are coming up in the next year for the console that you think will get people excited about the console in the face of the planned Xbox 360 and PS3 launches?

Kaplan - There are a number of great GameCube titles still planned for the system between now and Zelda. This holiday, gamers hungry for epic, story-driven RPG quests can choose either Fire Emblem or Pokemon XD – both for Nintendo GameCube. Or for the action and Mario-loving fans in the house, Super Mario Strikers could easily knock the classic Smash Bros. from the top of the four-player brawler list. And there are plenty of surprise Nintendo GameCube hits on the way in 2006 – we just can’t let the cat out of the bag quite yet.

Revolution won't be released in Spring

It seems that Nintendo has confirmed that Nintendo's next gen console codename Revolution will launch in "later half 2006". Nintedo's telephone line Nintendo Power Line has confirmed that the Revolution will be released between the summer through the winter of 2006. Here's the full quote:

"As the company with the strongest heritage of innovation, Nintendo moves the bar for all next gen systems by employing a wide-ranging strategy that will attract more kinds of gamers to more kinds of games. When Nintendo's new console, codenamed Revolution, arrives in the later half of 2006, everyone will discover the meaning of all-access gaming."

Now to some of you, this sounds like a bad move for Nintendo to launch the Revolution later than Sony PS3, but if the Xbox360 doesn't do well in US, then Sony will delay the PS3 back to 2007. So all of this depends on whether Microsoft does well in the US, and what does this mean for Japan and Europe? Will the console be released before the US launch in Japan or will Nintendo do the same tactic with the Nintendo DS? Only Nintendo knows, and you can trust DS Update to get you more Revoultion news.

Nintendo WiFi Connection Details for North America

REDMOND, Wash., On Nov. 14, Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection will begin a new era of easy, social gaming. For the first time, characters from the Nintendo universe will be playable online, as part of a unique wireless community, accessible inside or outside the home. Nintendo DS games like Mario Kart DS, Animal Crossing: Wild World and Metroid Prime Hunters will require no additional charge for online play. Each is scheduled to launch in the coming months, along with the first third-party title using Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection, Activision's Tony Hawk's American SK8Land, developed by Vicarious Visions.

From home, if the user already has a Wi-Fi network, the Nintendo DS unit will connect directly to it with minimal setup procedures. Those who have a high-speed Internet connection such as cable or DSL, but no wireless network, can use the Nintendo Wi-Fi USB Connector, sold separately, that will plug into a computer USB port to create a wireless access point to connect to Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

Outside of the home, players will be able to connect in a variety of ways, including at thousands of free Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection hotspots nationwide. More details about these hotspots and how to connect outside of the home will be announced shortly.

Nintendo DS is just the first Nintendo system to connect via the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. The same service will be incorporated into Nintendo's next-generation home console, code-named Nintendo Revolution, set for release in 2006.

"Nintendo has taken the online video gaming model and rewritten the definition of community," said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales & marketing. "With easy setup and no added service fees, players far and wide will log in and play with one another as easily as if they were sitting in the same room."

Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection will create a welcome, inviting atmosphere where video game players of all kinds can log on wirelessly and begin playing. The service will be used in different ways for different games. In Mario Kart DS, four players at a time can race over Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Racers can pick opponents from their roster of friends, match up randomly against strangers of comparable skill levels or simply choose to race against anyone in the world. Mario Kart DS launches Nov. 14.

People who hang out in Animal Crossing: Wild World can travel to other players' towns or invite up to three other players to visit their own towns, simply by opening the town gate. The four players then can interact and play together simultaneously in one town. Players must know one another and register to their respective friend rosters before they can connect. Animal Crossing: Wild World is set to launch on Dec. 5.

Activision's Tony Hawk's American Sk8land will let players compete head-to-head in multiplayer games in a variety of modes. Players also can create custom skateboard art and graffiti tags, and share them with other players via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. The service will track global high scores and stats. Tony Hawk's American SK8Land will launch on Nov. 14.

Games in development include Metroid Prime Hunters, slated to launch in the first quarter of 2006. Players can hook up for play with registered friends, automatch with other players based on a skill-level match or play with anyone; Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection quickly finds the best match with other players online.

Engadget and Joystiq intevrviews Miyamoto

In the interview with Miyamoto, Engadget talks to him about Nintendogs on the Nintendo DS, Nintendo Wifi Connection, Revolution and its controller, and the fan-made video, Nintendo On.

Engadget and Joystiq: Do you think that most of the games that will be available on launch will actually take full advantage of the new controller? Or do you think it’s something that will have to evolve over time?

Miyamto: Well, as we’ve seen with the Nintendo DS it’s taken us about six months for games like Nintendogs and the Brain Training games we’ve introduced in Japan to came out, and these are software that can only be achieved on a Nintendo DS. So in that sense, it took us a little while to get full functionality out of the DS. But for the Revolution launch we’re trying to have software that takes as much advantage of the Revolution controller as possible. The one advantage we have in this area is that the Revolution development can actually be done on the Game Cube development environment. So the development kits are going to have a very similar structure to the Game Cube development kits, which makes it very easy for people who have started projects on the Game Cube development kits to just switch over the interface and continue working and have those games ready for the Revolution. We’re thinking that we’re going to be able to have a pretty strong launch.

New Animal Crossing: Wild World WiFi and LAN info

Nintendo has released new information about AC:WW LAN and WiFi details.

DS Local Area Network
When players are within wireless range of other people who have Animal Crossing: Wild World, they can travel to one other's towns. One person will be the host and open up his or her town gate to visitors. Up to three others within range can exit their town gates to travel to the host's town, where they can do all sorts of things: fish, write letters to townsfolk, shop at the store, cut down trees, anything. Up to four players can interact in real time, communicating with text messages and emoticons. (All players must have game cards for multiplayer mode.)

After players visit another town, the following events may take place:
One of the characters in the town they visited might move to their town, and a character from their town might move to the town they visited.
"Bottle mail," a bottle containing a letter written by someone in another town, might wash ashore in their town.
Constellations created by someone visiting their town might appear in the night sky.
This mode is open to anyone in Local Wireless range – there is no need for people to pre-register on friend rosters.

Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection
Wireless multiplayer mode plays the same as the DS Local Area Network multiplayer, except that players connect using Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. Players must know one another and register one another to their friend roster before they can connect. For example, if player A plans to visit player B's town, both player A and B need to register each other's names. The friend roster window is accessible anytime during the game. There are two ways to register names to the friend roster:
Register using DS Local Area Network mode. When players visit another town, they can register the host and other visitors to their friend roster, and others in the town can register them to their lists as well. Players also can register anyone who visits their town, and visitors also can register players in the towns they visit. It's very easy to register friends. Players simply tap the friend roster icon, then tap the names of the people they want to register – they'll instantly be added to the friend roster.
Players can register the Friend Registration Key, or password, of a person they want to play with. Players receive Friend Registration Keys when they register their games with Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. They can then exchange friend codes with others by phone/e-mail/online bulletin boards and use them to add their friends to their lists.
