More comments on the Revolution's Controller

More keep on coming as a lot of developers are finding that the Revolution's controller is really great.

Carlo Delallana, Ubisoft:
This new control system really differentiates Nintendo from its competition and should allow them to position the Revolution in the marketplace very clearly. IDG did a study that shows that more households will go multiconsole when the next-gen systems hit. Gamers may consider the Revolution as a good companion system to their more mainstream consoles (Xbox 360 or PS3). There's a lot of potential with the controller as far as game design, I'm sure designers all over the world are probably thinking of ways to exploit this technology. We could see some really amazing games and possibly new game genres making its debut on the Revolution. How much support the Revolution gets is entirely up to Nintendo. Software sells hardware and the launch line-up for the Revolution and clever marketing from Nintendo will determine if this gamble pays off. This is a chance for developers to break out of the mold of "formulaic game design" and really explore what games can be, possibly expanding the audience at the same time.

Vince Dickinson, EA-Tiburon:
I think it's a fantastic move for the industry (and gamers). Who isn't looking forward to seeing what fun and unique new games Nintendo comes up with? I know I'll be first in line. If anyone can deliver on the promise of expanding the market, it's Nintendo - and they've proved that in Japan with DS Brain Training and Nintendogs. I think it's also a good move for Nintendo's bottom line as well, as it further differentiates them (in a positive manner) from Sony and Microsoft, which is critical. As for third parties, I think it will be successful for companies that invest the resources to create Nintendo-caliber games. I doubt you'll see as much third party support for the Revolution as the PS3 & Xbox 360, which leaves a great big opening of opportunity for adventurous or niche developers to fill. But companies whose businesses are built on raw cross-platform development are going to see the fewest copies sold on the Revolution.

Warren Blyth, NaturalPoint:
This will be great for the industry in general. The majority of our customers are too dense to understand that there are better ways to play games than joysticks, mice, and keyboards. They don't even understand why you'd want to move in true 3D space (all 6 degrees of freedom), or why you'd want to touch a screen instead of positioning a cursor on it. They think that technology from 20 years back is still used to control games because it's still the best. It's ridiculous. I work for a company that has been selling a motion tracking game input device since 2001 (based on your simple head movement, instead of a wand/remote), and we're fascinated to see how Nintendo handles the paradigm shift. It will be a huge benefit for innovative companies (hardware or software) when Nintendo educates the mass market about what new technology can offer.

Iwata talks about the Revolution

G4 had it's exclusive interview between Nintendo's president, Satoru Iwata. Iwata-san was asked if the Revolution's graphics will be up to with the PS3 and Xbox360, then Iwata commented that Nintendo is thinking about the mainstream appeal, and the non-gamers would not be amazed with the graphics but then, Iwata was asked another question for the gamers who want to see graphic power, and then Iwata said that the Revolution's graphics will be up to par with the PS3 and the Xbox360, but yet again, Iwates stated that gamers will only get the Revolution, because of gameplay, so it looks like the Revolution's graphics will be up to par with the PS3 and Xbox360 is confirmed by Nintendo's president himself.

Iwata also mentioned that they have been getting a lot of positive feedback by the developer and publisher on the Revolution's controller, and that Nintendo showed the controller to Western developers and publishers and they were worried about the remote control like controller, but when Nintendo introduced the nunchuck attachment to them they began to like it. Nintendo also approached developers and publishers about gameplay concepts, and Nintendo suggesting various franchises that would benefit the Revolution, and Iwata-san said "Without exception, all third parties responded positively to concrete proposal." And Iwata-san has no definite release date for the Revolution but in 2006.

Nintendo to motor Mario Kart Arcade GP in America

From Punch Jump:

"Nintendo said Tuesday that it will import Mario Kart Arcade GP to North America. The two-player dedicated arcade racer was previously released in Japan.
Developed by Namco, Mario Kart Arcade GP includes 11 characters, including Mario, Luigi, Peach, Pac-Man, Ms. Pac-Man and Blinky. The arcade game features six worlds and 24 race courses, along with additional challenge stages.

The arcade cabinet includes a NamCam2 that will let players insert their face on a character.

The gameplay is similar to previous entries in the Mario Kart franchise. The arcade version includes 57 objects with over 40 exclusive to Mario Kart GP.

Nintendo and Namco have collaborated on several projects prior, including a Star Fox game on the Nintendo GameCube."

It seems as if Nintendo is aiming for the success in North America with Mario Kart GP that they experienced in Japan. If this project comes out right, it could be very beneficial for both Nintendo and gamers alike.

Nintendo 'Nerds' Rush the Rockefeller Center

September 26, 2005 -- Hundreds of "Nintendo nerds" invaded Manhattan yesterday to meet the legend who gave birth to the Mario Brothers, Donkey Kong and Zelda.
Shigeru Miyamoto came to Rockefeller Center's Nintendo store to unleash his latest creation: Nintendog, a "pet" that responds to its "owner's" voice.

Kevin Cassidy, of New Jersey, arrived Saturday fashionably dressed in his magic Mario mushroom pants to join the blocks-long line. "It was great to hang out with other nerds," he said.

Apparently, the New York Post has no respect for loyal Nintendo fans or Shigeru Miyamoto.

Revolution Specs

Han solo, the man who acurately leaked the xbox360 specs is now saying he has the new revolution specs.

As quoted from nintendojo:

While unverified, a Factor 5 employee posting as "Han Solo" on forums.g4tv.com has posted supposed specs for system architectures that Nintendo is deciding between for their next console. Normally we'd be more skeptical, but Solo did provide near exact Xbox 360 specs before official details were announced.

According to Solo, Nintendo had two possibilities, canned the less-realistic, more expensive one and is now deciding between the first system and the following modifications to the first. From the middle of the thread's third page:

System 1 Modified
CPU:
1 IBM Custom PowerPC 2.5 GHz with 256 KB L1 cache and 1 MB of L2 cache (an L3 cache is rumored). It's Dual Threaded

13 billion dot product operations per second

Revolution GPU

ATI Custom based RN520 core. The "N" stands for Nintendo, and is because the ArtX team is with them, that is why it's an "N".

GPU core at 600 MHz. Will support up to 2048x1268 resolution, HD support is still being decided. Will have 256 MB's of 1T-SRAM (the RAM is much better due to some tweaking, compared to GC's RAM. The latency and Cells are much more efficient and faster. Around 1.2 ns is the latency, on average).

32 parallel floating-point dynamically scheduled shader pipelines.

Polygon Performance: 500 million triangles per second theoretical, average in game would be around

Shader Performance: ~50 billion shader operations per second

Revolution memory

512 MB of 700 MHz 1T-SRAM

Other bits and pieces
Revolution will support a PPU chip (Physical Processing Chip). There will be 32 MB's of its own RAM, which will link to the CPU and GPU and the Controller.

There will also be a separate sound card that will support only DD 5.1 ñ DTS 7.1, rumors has it will have 16 MB's, like the Cube DSP

Sounds at least like he knows what he's talking about. Solo goes on to say that he thinks, "this [machine] would be on par with Xbox360, though PS3 could have an edge in the CPU area. In the GPU area the Revolution beats PS3, and technically would match Xbox 360." This would be great news to some as it would quell worries about console inferiority and level the playing field for multi-system releases. We'll be here to confirm or deny this rumor when official specs become available. (ps)

Gearbox might develop Revolution games

Gearbox, developers of Brothers in Arms, might set their eyes on the Revolution; Randy Pitchford, president of Gearbox, was interviewed about the Revolution's controller, and if Gearbox would develop video games for the Revolution.

Pitchford replied,"I think the Revolution is an interesting device and I look forward to the challenge of making games for it. There are a few ideas I've nurtured over the years that I think would be very appropriate for the interface options the Revolution provides."

Now nothing is official yet, but we'll keep you updated on this news.

David Jaffe, maker of God of War comments on the controller

As more and more positive comments about the Revolution keeps coming, Daivd Jaffe, maker of God of War, comment on the Revolution's controller and he seems interested on what the controller.

"I like it, can't wait to play with it... worried -- as a player -- it could be a novelty that gets old... but Nintendo is not dumb and they must know the whole 'novelty burnout' is a risk so they are prob. doing all they can to make sure that doesn't happen... I think it's a great idea...."

Moore likes the Revolution's controller

Microsoft's very own, Peter Moore, who used to work at Nintendo, commented about the Revolution and he likes what Nintendo is doing with its controller.

"I want to give kudos for Nintendo for its attempt at innovation with the new controller," Moore commented, saying that the new device would "bring people in that, as Iwata-san said, are either lapsed gamers or gamers that are intimidated by the complexity of the controller.

"We said at E3, we want a billion consumers touched in this next generation by our industry. That was an industry message. Certainly, we can see Nintendo rallying to that cry and reiterating what Robbie said on May 16th; I heard the same words come from Iwata-san of Nintendo yesterday."

Now Moore gave Nintendo credit on what they are "attempting" to do with the Revolution's controller and he also commented that the Revolution's controller wouldn't scare off non-gamers with the complexity of the controller and its buttons. Moore was not praising the controller like some other sites are saying, but he's giving a complement to Nintendo on the controller.

Beth talks Revo's price

Nintendo's Senior Director Beth Llewelyn had an interview and in the interview, one question popped up about the Revolution's price and she says,

"While we have not released information about pricing for our next system, we do recognize that in order to expand the market and reach new consumers price is an influencing factor. Price will be a major consideration in future consoles as the cost of technology continues to rise. As we've already seen with the currently announced pricing for Microsoft's Xbox 360, gamers looking for a new system around the holidays this year could easily spend over $500, which could be too high for many consumers."

This seems like good news for the Revolution if the Revolution see a low pricepoint, then the revolutionary next-gen system might gather consumers.

Game Boy Micro has its U.S. debut

Nintendo has launched their latest installment in the hand-held industry, the Game Boy Micro. Micro measures just 4 inches wide, 2 inches long and 0.7 inches thin and weighs 2.8 ounces, about the weight of 80 paper clips. It can play any of the 700 titles in the Game Boy Advance library.

The screen is small (around 2 inches). But, with a very sharp image (on par with the Nintendo DS screen) and glowing buttons. There are two colors (black and silver), each with three different faceplates.

The Game Boy Micro will retail in the U.S. for $99

"Game Boy goes anywhere, and now it fits anywhere," said George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications.

"The incredibly small size of Game Boy micro belies the powerful technology shrunk into a hip new casing with an intensely bright screen; and at under $100, it's a must-have."

Nintendo DS WiFi is easy to use that your grandma can actually do it, but there is an option if you want to set-up an account, you can have a buddy list for your friends to play Wifi games or you could play anyone around the world but on a ranking system, but the only letdown here is there is communication in Wifi games, and Wifi to play on the DS is absolutely free, and Nintendo is predicting that they will have up to 90% of DS owners will be online. Industry comments on Revolution controller

We have more comments from the game industry as they talk about the Revolution's controller.

"I feel just like a child with a new toy, opening millions of new doors of possibilities. More than an improvement, this way of playing is creating a new dimension. It’s simple, when Nintendo unveils its hardware, every member of the team starts imagining crazy ideas. It’s opening their minds. The fact of adding 3D gestures as the way of communicating with the game is just the perfect kind of innovation that can bring new games to new gamers. To me, it can bring the consoles what the mouse brought to the PC at it time. It’s a 3D pointer with rotation information! Now, you're going to handle virtual objects, make recognition signs. It’s closer to the way we act in real world, that’s why it’s going to be mass market. I’m sure that people will go crazy given the ability to interact so easily with virtual worlds. I’m just mad about it!"

-Michel Ancel
Game Designer, Ubisoft
Creator of Rayman, BG&E and King Kong

"Revolution controller = casual gamer paradise.

A lot of people are really intimidated by buttons. Console controllers are scary things that make you look dumb if you don't know which button to press. I remember my frustration at switching from Nintendo to Sony and having to look for the Triangle button, Circle button, etc in Parappa the Rapper and it took time and dedication to feel comfortable with the controller. My wife is not a gamer, heck she doesn't even use the TV remote proficiently, preferring to use the numbers instead of the channel up and down keys. I think Nintendo have been watching the people who put down the controller too quickly and the people who play with their tongues out and tilt their controllers to get that extra bit of corning control. Revolution means people can have fun more immediately and we can hook them on that fun without the time and dedication needed to learn how to use a traditional controller."

-Des Hinkson
Senior Designer, Radical Entertainment

"It seems as if I Nintendo has found a modular way that they can take the best of the location-based entertainment/arcade experience and bring it home to the user. So all of those games you loved physically interacting with in the arcade – the drum game, the fishing one the, uh, poke your friend in the eye one….can really come to life in the living room. I haven’t been able to hold or use it yet so I’ll refrain from any further judgment until I get hands on as that’s what really, truly matters – feel!"

-Cliff Bleszinski
Lead Designer, Epic Games

"Nintendo has always prided itself on innovation and this controller is no exception. I think this move by Nintendo will secure them the uniqueness they seek. The only way that a new console will succeed is if they have third party publisher support. My only concern is that developers and publishers may have a difficult time in developing software for a single platform (which this controller ultimately forces them to do). Many publishers rely on multiple platform products in order to make the next gen console leap. It will be interesting to see how much support the Revolution gets compared to the PS3, 360, PC and let's not forget the current systems which will still have at least two years of life left in them."

-Tommy Tallarico
President, Tommy Tallarico Studios
Executive Producer/CEO, Video Games Live

"I'm very pleasantly surprised -- thrilled, even -- with Nintendo's Revolution controller. Like so many others, I was skeptical. I figured the Big N would deliver gamers a modified Wave Bird with tilt-sensory functionality and perhaps little more. But what we got instead is a device that more or less abandons the traditional control fundamentals that Nintendo itself helped pioneer. I mean, the Revolution's input mechanism has the potential to reinvent the way we all play videogames and if Nintendo executes on the unit's potential, it could bring about the most intuitively manipulated videogames to date. These are the types of innovations that in my mind are worthy of the console's codename.

What also makes the Revolution controller unique is that it does not come with limitations. Just because it enables a new type of 3D motion interactivity does not mean that it sacrifices traditional controls. Gamers looking for more conventional controls will be able to insert the Revolution pointer into a Wave Bird-like shell, in which case a more familiar layout becomes available. Better yet, the pointer's motion sensory functionality remains active.

With the DS, I think Nintendo dipped its toe into the future of gaming. With Revolution, it's finally plunged headfirst into the waters. If the Revolution controller is ultimately as intuitively used as it looks to be, Nintendo may finally prove to consumers that the definition of next-generation games needn't be limited to prettier graphics alone."

Tony Hawk pics

Tony Hawk Sk8land Details

Some new details about Tony Hawk Sk8land have surfaced. These new details tell us about the different kinds of gameplay that will be available in the game including Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.

Wireless Multiplayer - Two players can go head-to-head via a wireless connection and battle through several modes: Trick Attack, Score Challenge, Combo Mambo, The Price is Wrong, Horse and more.

WiFi - Fans create a handheld Hawk community where they can skate head-to-head against other DS players online, post and download high scores and statistics, as well as replay ghosts, which teach gamers new skate runs, combos and other moves done by others in the WiFi Hawk community. Players can also play against the ghosts.

Voice In-Game - Players can record voices that replay in the game when players bail, perform a special trick, or clear a gap.

Map Screen - Detailed top screen displays the main gameplay, while the bottom screen displays information such as a level map with collectable locations, dialogue, tips and hints.

Graphical Editors for Create-A modes - Draw with the DS stylus to customize various game elements (deck art, graffiti tag). The bottom screen provides a canvas and color palette, while the top screen shows the finished decal (rotating deck, logo).

Trick Slots - Perform special moves using the touch screen. During gameplay the touch screen presents trick slots, which slides in or out depending on whether the skater's special meter is full. Special tricks may be executed when one of the slots is touched. Players can customize their trick slots by assigning tricks from a list available via the skate shop.

Freak Out! (Tantrum Mini-game) - Players can recover lost combo scores when they bail and win a dramatic speed boost by touching and stopping three pulsing columns as close to the top of the column as possible. The columns will appear on the bottom screen when a gamer bails or the game can be initiated by bringing the skater to a complete stop.

Create-A-Park - Players earn money through story mode and buy new equipment for their custom skate park. More than 1000 different skate park designs are possible using the intuitive touch screen based create-a-park editor.

Classic Mode - Compete against a timer to clear as many objectives as possible in two minutes.

I hope this Tony Hawk is as good or better than the others.

Developer Quotes [Update]

We have what developers has to say about the Revolution's controller.

Nintendo:
"The feeling is so natural and real, as soon as players use the controller, their minds will spin with the possibilities of how this will change gaming as we know it today," explains Satoru Iwata, Nintendo president. "This is an extremely exciting innovation - one that will thrill current players and entice new ones."

THQ:
"Nintendo has long been a trailblazer, and this controller design reinforces that reputation," said Brian Farrell, president and CEO of THQ. "We enthusiastically support Nintendo's next console because we believe their approach of continual innovation is very much in line with our own strategy of creating unique and innovative games for the next generation of hardware."

Activision:
"What we're seeing from this controller is the same thing we saw with Nintendo DS," said Chuck Huebner, Head of Worldwide Studios, Activision.. "It's a system that's designed with an eye on enticing new players to the video game industry, and that's something we firmly support."

EA:
"Game control is essential - it's the area where perhaps the most game-play improvement can be made," said John Schappert, Sr. Vice President and General Manager of Electronic Arts Canada. "While our portfolio represents a full array of titles across all genres, I think our sports titles might be the first to immediately take advantage of what this novel 'freehand' type of control has to offer."

Ubisoft:
"We were among the first publishers to see the control design in action," said Serge Hascoet, Chief Creative Officer of Ubisoft. "We're excited about the new controller and are looking forward to taking advantage of its innovative aspects."

We'll keep you updated

*Update*

Hideki Kojima has commented on the Revolution's controller, and He claims that Nintendo has made the right move with the controller: "'You've done it!' was my [first] impression! This was totally unexpected, I was pleasantly suprised because the controller is comfortable, and yet provides something brand new." He also stated, "Even though it was a suprise to me, once I had held the controller I quickly understood how it could be used."

This sounds like good news for the Revolution, and it could get more third-party developers pumped up develop games for the Revolution.

AMN postpones early Revolution news by Nintendo

AMN posted on it's forums that they will release early Revolution news yesterday night, but something happened to change AMN's minds:

"Nintendo Revolution news is coming and we are as excited as you are! We currently have two AMN staff representatives in Japan eagerly awaiting the show as you have been eagerly waiting for new Revolution information to surface today.

And of course there is a problem...

The wonderful AMN viewers, new and old, have done such an amazing job of spreading this "Tuesday-ton" announcement that the hype has reached numerous places, one of which was Nintendo.

As some of you were expecting everything Revolution - the works - we were only planning to release a bit of information regarding a few surprises Nintendo plans to unveil later this week. Getting back to the point, Nintendo rightfully put the lid on any such announcements we had planned and told us to wait until later in the week, until their announced keynote speech and first day of the Tokyo Game Show.

Of course we will be on our toes to report everything and anything we can -- as soon as we can, but in the meantime, we are forced to follow the rules, as every other media outlet must do.

Obviously the whole situation got hyped out of proportion, as we didn't have intentions to blow the lid on everything we got our ears and eyes on...only a teaser of what we know and of things to come, but apparently it was a little too much. Forum go-ers and Nintendo enthusiasts hyped up what was to be a light-hearted introduction of Revolution news with more information to come later in the week. Suppose there is a lesson to be learned from this, but who can blame us, being fan’s of Nintendo, we are as excited as the next person!

We are overwhelmed of the positive and negative responses we received. Joyed that we were able to create such a following, but disappointed that we are not able to share the information that we do have with all of you. We apologize for that.

Of course, it isn't the end of the world. New Revolution news is right around the corner and you can rest assure that we'll be one of the first to share the excellent news. We will be attending Mr. Iwata's keynote speech along with Microsoft's and Sony's, as well as all three days of the Tokyo Game Show. Expect the Revolution good-ness to hit a little on Thursday and a little more on Friday. We'll post sooner if we can.

We are as excited as you are! Stay tuned for further announcements as you won't be disappointed! We know we’re not!

The MegaTon will always live on..."

Well it looks like we've have to wait until tonght too see whether Nintendo will release Revolution news at TGS.

Revolution Rumors

Now on this edition in Revolution Rumors, There's a screenshot flying around the web that this is a Revolution game. The screenshot came from Moz La Punk and SG007's sites.

In the picture, it shows a man, (some site are saying that this might be George Harrison from Nintendo) and the game is called Gumshu: Bloody Afternoon. It talks about a detective named Nick Stevenson and the game is a action and only only one player, but that's the only information I could read, but on the top left hand corner, The date says 8/19/05 which means this was shown at the Leipzig Game Convention. Down at the bottom, it shows a blurred Revolution controller surrounded by two arrows and right next to it, It shows Nintendo WiFi Connection logo.

But We will have to wait until tomorrow night to see if Nintendo will release their info about the Revolution and its games and the Revolution's controller at TGS .

Spong and IGN says Revolution controller at TGS a definate

Two big news sites, Cube IGN and SPOnG has put up on their site what they know about the Revolution news being announced at TGS right now. SPOnG is saying with full confidence that Nintendo's President, Satoru Iwata, will announce the Revolution's mysterious controller and everytihng else at his keynot speech.

However, Cube IGN has updated their Revolution FAQ today and it has every few interesting point outs. On one of the Q/A, it's very interesting and quotes,

"Q: When will Nintendo reveal more about Revolution?

A: At the Tokyo Game Show 2005. Nintendo president Satoru Iwata will talk about Revolution in his keynote speech. Nintendo fans must not miss this event for it is here that Iwata is expected to unveil the Revolution's mysterious controller. The keynote will take place in mid-September and IGN will be on hand with details and photos."

Now IGN also confirms that Nintendo will reveal the Revolution's controller and most of the Revolution as well, and on other Q/A, IGN also speculates that the price for the Revolution will be sub $200. Now remember that this is just a speculation, but has a high possiblity that this speculation could become true. I wouldn't say "eat a grain of salt" but to "cross your fingers" that Nintendo will reveal the Revolution at TGS.

Shigeru Miyamoto Interview

A recent interview with Shigeru Miyamoto reveals some details about the Revolution, Zelda and more.

Why wait so long to release a new installment of Mario? The wait is frustrating players everywhere...

Mario is and always has been a concept title from his birth. We are always looking for new ways of playing with him, manipulating him, to create something new and unique. We're in the midst of preparing something special for his future, something never before seen. You'll understand when you see it that we can't quite release it right away. The new Mario game will surprise many people. Give us the benefit of the doubt. I think we'll present you with a new way to have fun. There's even a new character by his side.

Mario 128 will be released for Revolution then?

Yes, of course! It's no surprise, but of course we will rename it, obviously. That won't be the only surprise of next year though. We based the Revolution around this new type of game. Mario 128 played a large role in the Revolution's conception, much like Mario 64 in it's time. But we won't just be focusing on Mario. We're working on some very impressive games which push interactivity to the max. Games of a new era.

The new Zelda, it's not really good news that...

Please allow me to interrupt you by saying that you will have to be patient, really. This will be, without a doubt, the last Zelda game as you know it in its present form. I worked on it personally, moreso than Wind Waker! I haven't invested as much into any game as I have this one. Our goal was to make the best Zelda game ever. The most rich/satisfying and melancholy. We've really improved it in just a few months. Everything's coming together much quicker. We may have some last minute ideas...

You're going to move it to Revolution?

No, it is a Gamecube title.

In any case, you want to preserve the air of mystery around Nintendo?

We will be revealing many details soon. It's true, we do like surprises (laughs). While our gamers are sleeping, we're busy thinking up new ideas. But while they're playing - we're playing as well.

Matt of IGN confirming Revolution news at TGS

Remember the last Revolution rumor post i put up? No, not that fake Revolution's games list, but the speculation that SPOnG reported that Nintendo will release everything about the Revolution even the mysterious controller, and SPOnG boasted that they have Iwata's outline for the TGS event. But Matt at Cube IGN says in his email replys:

"Matt responds: Any report that claims to have a copy of Iwata's speech is false. These speeches are often not written until days before the events and only a handful of people would have access to them. That noted, there will be Revolution news at TGS and sources have indicated that the company would like to unveil the controller at the event. Again, it should be a very interesting month."

Seems that Matt is debunking what SPOnG has said about having Iwata's TGS' outline, but this sounds like it is a pretty strong chance that Nintendo will release Revolution news and maybe the Revolution's controller. DS Update will keep you update on this news.

New Space Invaders Revolution info

This DS version of the original arcade game takes place all over the globe! Get ready for the invasion!

Space Invaders Revolution is a new take on the series, which marks a true progression over any version before it: New types of invaders, new rules and new ways to destroy them.
Contains a faithful reproduction of the original arcade machine in Classic Mode.
New Era mode: the simple rules of Space Invaders are expanded and twisted into a revolutionary step for the classic franchise.
New Era mode takes the form of a world tour, with the player confronting the Space Invaders at 20 recognisable geographical locations.
In total there are 60 levels to defend and 13 different types of invader to battle.
Power-ups include protective shields, additional support craft, rapid-fire shots and column-clearing laser beams – essential aides as the action becomes progressively more intense.
Power-ups can be used in combination: using support craft with laser results in three laser beams, decimating multiple waves of invaders with every press of the fire button.
Created by a studio lead by the original designer of Space Invaders, Space Invaders Revolution is as authentic a sequel as possible, maintaining a 25-year lineage for videogaming's most universally recognisable brand.

Nintendogs -- America's Hottest Selling Game!

"With sales of a quarter of a million units in its first week of availability, Nintendogs is not only America's hottest-selling video game, but the best-selling new game franchise ever for a portable system.

Retailers already are reporting that Nintendogs, made exclusively for the hand-held Nintendo DS, has sold out in numerous locations across the country, and Nintendo will deliver more shipments as soon as possible. The three versions of Nintendogs and the DS unit itself consistently rank at the top of Amazon.com's best-selling list of all video game products."

Exciting news, yes? It seems as if the DS has reached its prime. As for the PSP, well...

"Nearly 15 percent of all DS owners bought Nintendogs in just a week, a virtually unprecedented adoption rate for any title on an established system," said Reggie Fils-Aime, Nintendo of America's executive vice president of sales & marketing. "And it's also helping sell new DS hardware. Coupled with a price drop to $129.99, retailers are reporting DS sales up between one and a half and three times previous levels, and last week DS comfortably outsold our portable competitors."

Lunar gets an European publisher

NINTENDO DSâ„¢ RPG Fans Will Be Over The Moon

Rising Star to release Nintendo DS iteration of long-running Lunar RPG series.

Wednesday 31 August 2005/... Rising Star Games, the European wing of Japanese publisher and developer Marvelous Interactive Inc. has announced that the Nintendo DS will be playing host to the next iteration in the Lunar series of RPGs. Set for European release in late autumn, Lunar Genesis will feature several innovations making the most of the unique features of the Nintendo DS and includes a brand new multiplayer battle mode.

Set in an expansive fantasy universe and beautifully presented in a rich, vibrant visual style, the world of Lunar has seen a number of versions across several formats, spanning 14 years and three generations of hardware. Set a thousand years before previous storylines, Lunar Genesis tells the tale of a band of young adventurers performing courier jobs who stumble into a battle between the forces of good and evil. This battle threatens to consume the entire land and sets the stage for over 70 hours of handheld RPG adventuring.

With all of the standard features associated with a traditional Japanese RPG, Lunar Genesis is adapted perfectly to take advantage of the benefits afforded by the Nintendo DS hardware. All aspects of player interaction, from movement around the game environments to map and menu navigation can be controlled via the touch-screen. Both displays are employed throughout the game to make sure the player has access to all the information they need. The dual screens are also fundamental to the battle system, with airborne enemies occupying the upper screen and traditional ground-based troops on the bottom. Even the microphone is used, as blowing on it during a fight acts as a 'panic button'.

Perhaps the most exciting feature for series fans and newcomers alike is the inclusion of the Coliseum mode, a wireless multiplayer battle where scratch cards earned during the singleplayer quest can be used to take on other players. The participants literally scratch off squares on the touch-screen, the outcome of which dictates the flow of combat. The winner gets to keep the loser's card for use in further Coliseum battles or to aid them in their singleplayer questing.

With its wealth of features and rich game world, Lunar Genesis will be released by Rising Star Games in November 2005.
