Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Trailer Revealed...

Nintendo will launch a multi-million dollar campaign kicking off the company's focus on taking the Nintendo DS online with a film-style teaser trailer hitting movie theaters this weekend.

"There is a great element of surprise to this ad," says Nintendo's advertising manager Kelli Koenig. "The spot opens on a very dramatic situation that you just wouldn't expect to be related to videogames or Nintendo. The spot clearly demonstrates Wi-Fi as it relates to the Nintendo brand with a nod to Mario Kart DS and it does this in a magical, clearly 'ownable ' by Nintendo kind of way."

Impressive. The first opening of Nintendo's newest investment. I could see this being really big.

New Marvel Nemesis facts and scan

Nintendo Power has info on EA's Marvel Nemesis and a scan.

"The fight between Marvel stars and a new group of flawed heros will spill over onto the Nintendo DS in EA's recently announced dual-screened duel. Joining wolverince, Electra, Spider-man and other marquee names in one-on-one battles are energy-controlling Solara, teleporter The Wink, earth shaker Fault Zone and several as-yet-undisclosed new characters for a total of 18 combatants.

The Imperfects are regular people with extraordinary powers, and they've been assembled by a professorial leader, (yeah, it sounds familiar to us to). What they have against Wolvie, Spidey and the rest, we don't know, but the game's story mode with undoubtedly sort that out.

By Winning bouts in story mode or wirelessly link multiplayer mode, players will earn points that they are free to spend on the game's art, unlockable levels, characters, alternative Marvel costumes and other memorabilia.

The fully 3-D fighting action is augmented by touch control, which triggers special powers. Once a hero's rage has built up, the player can activate a special mode that gives the hero unlimited powers for a limited time. The battle begins this October."

Prince of Persia DS revealed.

Surprising new details concerning the DS interpretation of Ubisoft's critically-acclaimed series have surfaced. The game will take place between the first and second games, and thus will feature many of the same characters from both titles. The most important aspect is the new style of gameplay. Rather than be a blend of platforming and action, this version will be a strategy game of sorts, similar to the "Tactics" style of games. Battles will make use of special cards for attacks and the game will feature a variety of multiplayer modes. The title is expected to release sometime during this year's holiday season. Sega interview about Revolution

In a interview with Nintendo Power, Sega's President, Simon Jeffrey talks about what they thought about the Revolution and it sounds good. When asked if any of Sega's franchise, like Panzer Dragoon and Shinobi, might reach the Revolution, Jeffrey said that Sega will definately look into it.

"I think we're really looking at which of our classic IPs are appropriate for different platforms," said Jeffrey, "We're very interested in Revolution at the moment. We obviously haven't made any announcements, but we, like other people, are talking with Nintendo about what Revolution will be, about potential opportunities on Revolution," says Sega's President, Simon Jeffrey. They also talked about rising development costs for next-gen software, and Jeffrey says Nintendo may see increased third-party support for the Revolution, but however, he said Revolution's design and interface might scare off developer.

"I think it depends how Nintendo rolls out its third-party relations," said Jeffrey, "We're very excited about the prospects of Revolution, because, like we were talking about earlier, the Nintendo platforms have been great for Sonic and the classic franchises. We think Revolution can absolutely be the same." Jeffrey says, "If Nintendo does choose a different model than Sony and Microsoft, then it might be very difficult for some third parties to adopt this three-pronged, multi-platform approach."

Nintendo Power asked Jeffrey if any past Sega game can be downloaded on the Revolution, then he said it was a good idea, but nothing is in works.

Nintendo may use USB WIFI adapter for Nintendo WIFI Connection Online

Some unconfirmed reports indicates that Nintendo is planning to release an USB WIFI adapter for user who has no wireless network that can plug into their PC to go online with the Nintendo DS and Nintendo's next generation codename Revolution.

"Basically, instead of an accessory that will let you go non-wireless, this accessory will make your current Internet connection compatible with WiFi," according to a comment attributed to an unnamed Nintendo representative.

GI confirmed that Nintendo UK declined the reports, but DS Update emailed Nintendo of America and this is what he said:

"Hello and thank you for contacting Nintendo,

The USB Wireless Network Adapter, for use with the Revolution and the Nintendo
DS systems, is being developed and is estimated for release in 2006. It will
work with the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection. It will use a USB 2.0 connection.

Be sure to keep an eye on our web site at www.nintendo.com for all the latest

Worms on the DS [Update]

THQ has announced that they are working with the European development studio Team 17 to bring a new title from the Worms series to the DS. No other details pertaining to the title have been announced, but the game is expected to take advantage of the system's wireless multiplayer.

Source: IGN.com

-Dark Gray

*Update*

Spadge, one of Team17's moderators on the company's forums, confirmed the following facts:

-Both the PSP and DS editions will feature classic Worms gameplay - as vociferously requested by our fans. Both versions have been in development for some time, news on release dates will follow much later in the year.

-Both platforms feature ad-hoc wireless play and of course, hot-seat play as well as single player games that suit the play patterns of the devices. I.e. short bursts.

-The DS will feature touch-screen use; planned to be finger rather than stylus control to make it better for hot-seat situations. The touch screen will be used for map scrolling, weapon controls and stats.

-The gamecode is all new for both editions and not a port of earlier 2d games.

-A 3d version of Worms is not currently planned for these devices, for both technical and play-factor reasons bearing in mind their screen resolution and suitability to the original 2d game mechanics.

-Further information will be released by the global publisher, THQ in future.

Metroid Interview

Two developers involved with Metroid Prime Hunters recently did an interview for Nintendo of Europe's website. In it they reveal details about the game's sing leand multiplayer modes, as well as a few of the other bounty hunters accompanying Samus.

First off, the game won't play online, but you will be able to play four-player with a single game card. Also, there will be an expanded weapon system, with most of the weapons featuring two different functions. Finally, some bounty hunters are better suited with certain guns than the other hunters.

The single player mode supposedly won't be the same as the other Prime titles. To start, Samus will have all of her abilities from the very start, so suit upgrades won't be necessary. Also, the focus has shifted from exploration and item-finding to combat and hunting down the other characters. And the story will center around Samus, and the other bounty hunters, trying to collect alien relics that will grant them unkwown powers.

Finally, three of the six new bounty hunters were revealed in-depth.

Noxus - "A spiritual being who's trying to cleanse the galaxy of evil."

Spire - "The last of his kind, a rock-based creature, trying to find out the
origins of the disappearance of his race."

Kanden - "An experimental lab-created creature who escaped, originally designed
as an unkillable soldier."

The other three hunters are being kept a mystery for the time being.

Mario Kart DS info

We have information from Nintendo Power's interview on Mario Kart DS.

Features

    -Over 30 courses

-Approximately half of the courses are new

    -8 Player Single-Card download play

-4 Player online mode via Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection

-You can choose the same characters in Multiplayer mode, for example, everyone can be Mario but you will be able to tell the difference because of the players names over the karter's head.

    -Battle Mode is available

    -Computer A.I is improved

-Battle Mode is available online, but no co-op play

-The Touch Screen can be used to draw decals on your karts (no doubt parts of the body)

    -Possible touch-control steering

-The DS features will be used, Hideki Konno said they wanted to make a Balloon weapon where you blow on the microphone to blow the balloon up

-The feather item from Super Mario Kart is being considered

"In our interview with Hideki Konno yesterday, the producer of Mario Kart DS gave us new details on the game's online mode and updates to the weapons and battle mode. He says the theme of the new Mario Kart is an expansion of the multiplayer and community aspects that the series is known for. The LAN mode is the ideal form of multiplayer, because up to eight players can compete (on a single game card), and the gameplay is locked in at sixty frames per second. The online WiFi mode supports four players, and the team is working very hard to achieve the same framerate as with LAN mode, but they aren't there yet. In a first for the Mario Kart series, players will be able to choose the same character simultaneously, so you can have a race of eight Marios. Individual players are still identifiable during the race, because the registered DS system name will be displayed above each player's character.

Mario Kart DS aims to be the biggest MK game yet, with over thirty courses and approximately half of those being brand new. The rest are courses ported from previous Mario Kart games, chosen for their nostalgic appeal. Battle mode is returning and is more or less the same as in past games, but the computer A.I. is being enhanced so that the mode will be fun even for a single player battling against bots. Additionally, Mr. Konno said the battle mode will probably be enabled for online play, as with the racing gameplay. Since all the karts in MKDS are built for just one character, there is no cooperative mode like the one found in the GameCube's Double Dash.

Although the game will be extremely familiar to fans of the series (don't expect any huge changes to the way it plays), Mr. Konno's team is looking at several ways to use the DS input features. The touch screen can be used to draw custom decals to decorate your favorite kart, and touch screen steering is being considered (though it would probably be optional, as the E3 demo is played entirely with the D-pad and buttons). As for weapons, the team would like to implement some new items that use the DS features, such as a balloon that is inflated by blowing into the microphone. By the way, we asked Konno-san about the feather item, and he said that he would keep it in mind."

Animal Crossing Info

In an interview with Nintendo Europe the producer and manager of Animal Crossing DS revealed some tidbits of information on the game.

-Tom Nook's store will be much bigger
-Tom Nook store now has a beauty salon, where you can customize your hair
-All the buildings have changed
-The game will use the internal clock, and events will still happen. Regarding different time zones, the host of the game is the real time. So if the host's time is 3.42pm and the players are 1.42pm, the actual in-game time will be 3.42pm.
-It will be playable offline.

Now all we need is a release date...

Rare Supports DS

That's right, Nintendo's former second party company is getting ready to produce a DS game. Rare has listed some new job openings on its website looking for new people specifically for DS titles.

GAMES PROGRAMMERS (NINTENDO DS)
Must be motivated, enthusiastic and skilled in C/C++ to join our dedicated handheld team, recently nominated for a Develop Industry Excellence Award. 3D skills also an advantage in creating high-profile titles for this unique system.

EXPERIENCED 3D ARTISTS (NINTENDO DS)
Good understanding of 3D packages (preferably Maya), strong modelling and texturing abilities, imagination and motivation are all required from anyone hoping to join our Develop award-nominated team in creating key DS titles.

In the N64 days Rare produced some of the best games ever to see the light of day. After most of the members left to form the company now known as Free Radical, the company was not producing the same AAA titles and Nintendo sold them off to Microsoft. Hopefully with this news we may see some Banjo-Kazooie DS games, or maybe even some Jet Force Gemini action on the dual screened system.

Research: DS over PSP once again

WaveMetrix reports that the Nintendo DS is much better than the Sony PSP."DS is better than PSP in every important area."

"Customers say the DS beats the PSP hands down in each of the areas that concern them most: games, device quality and screen. Furthermore, gamers find the DS superior value as it is substantially cheaper than the rival PSP. Sony’s impressive marketing campaign for the PSP has put it at the forefront of customer minds; it is discussed twice as frequently as the DS. Perhaps surprisingly this has not fed through to customer satisfaction."

The Revolution gets Possession

Blitz Games has confirmed that their zombie-infested game, Possession will be coming to the Revolution. The game is designed to work offline and online, as you can play as the necromantic monster who can control zombies at his very will, or you could play as the single hero who will get rid of the flesh eating army, but Blitz has not found a publisher for the zombie game.

Revolution Rumors

While looking through Revolution rumor site, I found a post entry about a guy who used to work at Nintendo, and now he is at Factor 5, but anyway he sent a list of Revolution titles. Some titles are confirmed, but most titles are unconfirmed so take this list with a grain of salt.

SNES Emulator on Nintendo DS

Although emulation isn't the best thing to brag about, playing classic SNES games on your DS should be an exception. Loopy, the creator of PocketNES for the GBA has recently made a SNES emulator for the DS. To use it you must flash a snes rom to a rewritable GBA flashcart and then use the WiFiMe method to send the actual emulator to the DS.

The emulator is bare bones right now. I was able to get the Triforce intro on Zelda: A Link to the Past, but afterwards I was overwhelmed with errors. I then tried to play some Tetris Attack, and while still being far from perfect, offered tons of fun. Unfortunately, because you need a rewritable GBA cart, homebrew code and emulators like this will not become mainstream (rewritable GBA carts are very hard to come by for one, and not to mention expensive). For those interested in a download link, you can get it at the source below.

I've posted some screenshots of my Tetris Attack attempt.

DOOM DS

Here's another post to the homebrew scene, but unlike a lot of the previous projects I have seen, the developer of DOOM DS seems to have his mind set well. All he needs now is a team to work with and we could see a successful DOOM port to the DS.

Doom64 had huge potential, but in my opinion, fell short for many reasons.
The weapons looked great but were let down by a lack of animation. There weren't any reloading animations for the shotguns!
The monster designs were fantastic, but once again poor animation and an unusual use of color let them down.
They also come across as being plastic figurines, rather then fearsome demons from hell.
I'm confident the N64 could have handled 3D monsters with the help of a decent level-of-detail setup.

Go check it out!

Resident Evil DS? [Update]

Apparantly an unofficial Nintendo magazine has heard word that Capcom will be remaking Resident Evil for DS. The game is suppose to have the same type of controls and camera view of Resident Evil 4 (which is the best game this console generation thus far). The touch screen is rumoured to be used to control Jill/Chris's knife. No official word has come from Capcom though so for the time being this is no more than a rumour.

Meteos Review! Goemon?

Hey everybody! I've been a bit absent but I'm returning and to start off I'm submitting my Meteos Review. Be sure to check it out. I also recieved my Goemon DS import yesterday and you can expect a review for that in the future. For anybody who was interested in importing it, I'd have to warn that it is very text heavy in Japanese. I know a bit of Japanese but I'm still struggling. So yes, Goemon DS is very text heavy (like an RPG...)

Weekly Poll results

On this weekly poll we have the results for the best visuals for "upcoming" Nintendo DS games. You guys chosen Mario Kart DS that has the best visual with 105 votes, Nanostray snags second place with 99 votes, surprisingly Viewtiful Joe DS gets third place with 80 votes, Snowboard Kids holds on to forth place with 10 votes, and the underdog, The Boy and His Blob gets a six votes making the game with the least best visuals. Now this week, we won't have a poll because of the pop-up problems, but next week will have a new poll that hopefully have no pop-ups. Since you guys keep saying the selections are crummy, you guys can choose which Nintendo DS games can go up on the polls. The next question for the poll is "Which Nintendo DS online game are you going to get?"

Revolution Behind?

Recent comments from Nintendo's president suggest that the Revolution may be the last console on the market.

"There is no possibility that the Revolution's launch will fall behind by too much, but there might be some small changes [to its launch schedule]."
Satoru Iwata, Nintendo President

On a positive note Iwata also commented that they are beginning plan the release dates long-term for the Revolution for many titles such as Super Smash Bros, Zelda, Mario, Donkey Kong, Metroid and other titles.
