Join The Fight For HD
Recently a group of Nintendo fans launched 1080up.net in hopes of getting more people to join in on the fight for HD. The site has a bunch of pre-made letters to mail Nintendo, as well as other types of ways to contact Nintendo. Hopefully Nintendo will listen and give the gamer what they want. So please join in and send Nintendo some hate mail, YOU CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Who cares?
The people that dont want nintedno to PHAIL like you do...yeah i said it PHAIL...i totally r0xx0rd j00!!!11oneoneone
Do you guys get your news exclusively from IGN now, or what? I already e-mailed Nintendo on this subject, and got an automated reply back.
Nintendo is making another mistake by not keeping up with Sony and X-box 360.
And games look amazing in HD,
sooo I will send them mail, stupid nintnedo . Did they not learn from the Gamecube to KEEP UP WITH THE OTHER CONSOLES FEATURES!!!!!!!!
I agree with anoymous. Who gives a toss about HD? It'll mean more expensive development costs for hoisted on us for what? So 10% of flash bastard games with expensive tellies can benefit? No thanks.
It will just be ANOTHER reason why the " Casual gamer" will NOT want a revolution. Sony
I dont give a crap what a few fanboys here say, for Nintendos sake they MUST KEEP UP.
oh and my DAD's 40 inch PLASMA is sweet.HDTV will become standard on all new tvs in a year or 2 and drop in price. MY dad said he bought a DVD player for $580 five years ago... now they are $47.99 at walmart with MORE features than the $580 one had.
This generation--- N " Gamers DONT want online play"-- ps2 and X-box HAVE online play and people buy MORE of them.
This generation-----N " Gamers dont want DVD players in thier consoles"-- ps2 and X-box HAVE them, MORE people buy those consoles.
Next generation---N " People DONT want HD games" --- so GUESS WHAT IS GOING TO HAPPEN AGAIN NINTENDO?????????
STOP telling gamers " what they want" and keep up with the big boys please.
I love Nintendo games, but some times thier ignorance in telling gamers what they want is stupid, even fanboys here cant be THAT blind.
I've had an HDTV now for over 5 years. I am not concerned at all if Nintendo comes with HD games. I would hope they would at least use 480p, but anything other is not a big deal. Half of you guys have no idea about HD. There is not even a standard yet. First it was 720i then 720p then 1080i now 1080p. Even the disks don't have a common format yet. We're a little premature for the whole HD thing but I'm sure you guys will respond calling me names or something. It's not a big deal. I'm a huge technophile but even I am not that concerned yet. You guys are so willing to push the future when the present is not broken. HD, Online games, etc... They're nice and all but not enough to get a heart attack over. GEEEEZ!
What he said...
Couldn't have said it better myself ;)
Look - Here's the deal. Nintendo is NEVER going to attract the casual gamer, NEVER. I'm a huge Nintendo fan but I've come to that conclusion a long time ago. Unless Nintendo comes out with GRAND THEFT AUTO 5, it will never attract casual gamers. Most people who follow Nintendo are longtime older gamers over 30 or kids under 15. Nintendo will never attract too many people in the 16-30 age range. They all want PSPs and XBOX 360s. That's just the way it is but who cares? So we should just give up trying to tell Nintendo what to do and how to market itself. They rarely listen and still make money otherwise so why change? Now I'll go back to playing Electroplankton (addicting) for DS.
Thank you anonymous, nice to know someone actually reads what I write. =)
exactly what I was thinking Anonymous. Nintendo may not attract my friends(DS+GBA lovers, only going to buy GC for LoZ:TP, have PS2s) but Im a fan simply because of the fun you get from them. I already had a DVD player when GC came out, so it didn't bother me, online wise, I have the internet on my PC and will get it for my DS soon. Its no big deal about HD, but Nintendo may as well be like sheep this time round. Either way, im getting a Revo HD or not.
I completely agree with you link. I have always stuck with Nintendo because their games are fun. Many of my friends moved to Sony (although I converted a couple back from the darkside)but for me Nintendo is synonymous with video games. I hope The Revolution has the same success the DS has. They'll have my support HD or not as well.
Nintendo NEEDS to learn from thier mistakes.
Why NOT have HD as a additional OPTIONAL feature????? no reason, production costs dont go up just because you can put the game in hi- res.
Especially, if the compitition is doing it??????
Or guess what?
We wont be playing on a nintendo console in 5 years, as they will drop out of the console business and stick to handhelds, assuming the keep up with the trends there and dont screw up. Not because they suck, not because they have bad games, but because they did not keep up with the OPTIONS for gamers that the OTHERS have.
I hate the way no site covers the down side of HD:
Less CPU/GPU power for other stuff.
This is completely ignored.
Its exactly like a PC..the higher the res, the less power is left for other stuff.
Now, fair enough if people feel HD is worth more then polycount or framerate, but at least people should be told its downside!
This is such a childish argument. Did we really need DVD support? Nintendo is asking developers to develop in 480p. Why do so many people who dislike Nintendo's actions even post here? I'm happy with every move Nintendo makes, because each one brings me more gaming. That's all I care about. That's right, me, the Nintendo fan. The guy who sees through all the bullshit and just wants to have fun.
^^^
are you saying nintendo is perfect? because if you are your very wrong. nintendo is far from perfect.
Last Tuesday, I had a chat with two people from Nintendo of Europe's PR department on this subject. Their opinion (and mine as well)? WHY throw in expensive technology if only a really small subset of the crowd (the really-REALLY hardcore gamers) will benefit from it? Who will have a HD-tv? Almost no-one, since they're really expensive at the moment.
Same thing goes for that cable for the GameCube: 99% of all gamer don't even know the cable exists.
I'll tell you why Dennis (and PR staff at Nintendo of Europe)
Because perception is reality.
Or at least that's what it's become.
If you don't get me then I'm sorry
All I know is that they better at least support 480P or I'll be havin' fun on my DS playin' XBOX LIVE. Or have you guys heard?
http://xbox.advancedmn.com/article.php?artid=5148
This will be a trip huh?
PSP Quality, you're gonna love this.
The problems with HD . .
There are other issues to think about. I was reading a discussion the other day about HD in games and there are problems with framerate and graphics not being fluid. Not all TV's will be able to handle it, there's a lot more to think about then just HD or not. For those folks who have money leaking out of their pockets this isn't something to worry about. But It's going to be tough for me to afford the Rev and it would insane to have to buy a new TV just to get the system to work.
you dont need a new tv to play an hd compatable system....it looks fine on a regular tv too....so you dont neeed to buy anything
PSP guy, you are kind of stupid. Sorry guy, I know you are young, but that is no reason to be stupid.
But you do have some good points along with your posts that some people here are just not getting into their thick heads.
I donât know what is worse. Thick biased Nintendo fans who donât understand the underdog state that Nintendoâs revolution is in, or that PSP fan boy who makes sense only 50% of the time.
Well;
1) According to an EB poll, most GameCube users are between 13-17
2) Nintendo's dedicated fanbase doesn't care.
3) High Definition causes preformance issues, something a weaker machine may want to avoid.
4) They still could be posturing, it was only Kapplin who said it -- and she's useless
There, thank you The man who owned you whiners. . .
I know what I'm talking about with HD and there are problems. I've researched it, talked with others and we all agree there are issues.
I'm a film documentary student, HD is a topic everywhere and I know that the format is no where near perfect. It's the new rage but that doesn't mean we all should jump and the band wagon, like I said. . there's more to it then HD or not.
"you dont need a new tv to play an hd compatable system....it looks fine on a regular tv too....so you dont neeed to buy anything"
"looks fine" is correct.
But it dosnt look as good as it would be if the game wasnt designed for HD resolution.
This is it:
HD reduces the quality for the mass's for the sake of the few.
Polygons, Effects, Textures....everything could be slightly better when rendering to a lower res.
However, progressive scan dosnt make a difference to GPU/CPU load...so they should certainly have that.
To - Coz Dun Bakka
I just wanted agree with what you said about HD. I being someone who has HDTVs can tell you there have been problems all around HD. It looks nice but the whole "format" isn't even final yet. For those of you that don't have HD or don't know much about it, it comes with it's problems. So in time when they get it right, then we can start talking games. It took me 5 TVs before I got the correct 65" that I wanted. I had to keep takin' them back and it was all manufacturer stuff. So while Sony, Toshiba, Microsoft, Phillips, and IBM fight over formats...
I'll be playin' Metroid Prime 3.
Good discussion. Many fan boys here have good points. BUT they go to far with the Nintendo blindness and loose a little creitabilities.
I never said I would NOT buy a Revlution cause no HDTV.
I said Nintendo will sell MORE if the KEEP UP with the competition. Which is defenatly true.
I never said fanboys will not buy it, or GAMERS like me who like Zelda and Metroid and Mario, I said that the Gamecube sold less unites because it did not have all the same features the OTHERS had. And once again, that is true.
And I cant wait for Metroid prime 3 either.
Well maybe the best Metroid will be the ALL NEW 2D Metroid DS because Metroid prime might just be making the 3D game stale?
I'm seeing more and more sites now that say DS and PSP will be able to connect with XBOX LIVE. It's smart for M.S. But since PS3 and Rev are gonna have their own online service too, this sounds expensive. I doubt some big agreement is gonna be worked out.
you dont need a new tv to play an hd compatable system....it looks fine on a regular tv too....so you dont neeed to buy anything"
exactly: put in technology that makes the console more expensive, while 99% of the potential system owners will NEVER benefit from it. To those it's just a more expensive console with no added value.
"Because perception is reality."
Reality is realising that putting a console on the market is not just a race of popularity through technology.
I'm known among my friends and most Playstation fanatics as "Mr. Nintendo" but even I can't believe the blind faith that some have in Nintendo here. Don't get me wrong, I'm not ranting nor am I pissed at the bigN. But when PSP Quality or somebody says something objective, some of you guys (and gals) jump right on them with totally pre-programmed responses. "Nintendo is Perfect" ohhhhhhh kaaaaaaaaay! If they were perfect I would not have to buy a Playstation ever but I'm not gonna sit around until Twilight Princess with my thumb up my ass. I'm gonna play some good games on PS2. If Nintendo hadn't treated 3rd party developers like redheaded step-children in the 90s, I'd be playing the same games on their console instead.
And I'm fully aware of Geist and Killer 7. I'll be picking those up soon. But what else is coming until December? I'm not a little kid anymore like I'm gonna wait at home patiently until the next good Nintendo game comes out. Forget that? Hopefully the Revolution has more 3rd party and that will be my only console. I've personally tried to support 3rd party games on Gamecube only to not see the sequel on the same console. Tales of Symphonia, Re4, etc...
They eventually jump back to Playstation 2. I give my support so I can give my opinion. Do you guys truly give support? Would you guys buy a game that you maybe otherwise would not just to help sales numbers and encourage the developer to think Nintendo again? Well I have so please take my comments as objective. I've been on both sides so just listen to PSP Quality and some others once in a while.
To the above post...
1. What does this have to do with HD?
2. Nobody said Nintendo is perfect.
3. If you haven't already noticed, PSP Quality Controller is a fanboy himself. Just not a Nintendo fanboy. It's quite obvious.
4. Nintendo didn't treat the third parties like that. The PS1 and PS2 were really popular, so the third parties new they could make more money off of them.
Jimmie (a.k.a. Patrick Tow)
Jimmie, you are special needs.
Really. you MUST be. If you take your DS out of your bumb hole and see that I am MAKING FUN OF PSP with my name dumbass, thus no Fanboy like you are, chuckelehead.
Because I am a GAMER who loves PSP and DS and X-box. But your blind faith in Nintendo is so " special" that you must think somone who is OBJECTIVE is a fan boy of the compitition.Thet guy or girl was right, it IS pethetic to see fanboys who are blind, but it is also FUNNY-- haha at you--.
And yes, it is fujunny how all the fan boys have the SAME responce to anyone who is OBJECTIVE all the time, it is like the fanboys here have no free will and can not make an imformed decesions!
Hey, at LEAST you get all the good parking spots with your special needs thinking fanboy...and I DO mean boy!!!
Now, I COMMAND YOU to flame me and say BLIND fanBOY comments!!! 10 posts!!!!
To Jimmie or Patrick. I don't know where you get your information but that is exactly how Nintendo treated 3rd party companies. I'm not going to get into it as you feel I went off topic on my last post (I was trying to sum up what people were arguing about if you read it correctly). Just trust me when I say that Nintendo treated 3rd parties like that and anybody who knows the story knows what I'm talking about. But hey, enough about that. This is an HD post so back to HD.
You are right.
Nintendo DID treat third parties, at leas some of the companies crappy. It started back in N64 days.
Especially by charging royality fees HIGHER than Sony and Microsoft did for each game made.
How does this fit into a HD conversation?
IF HD means higher productions costing for games, 3rd party makers will ALREADY be paying a higher royality fee to make games on Nintendo then on PS3 and 360 PLUS the higher cost for HD. So N needs to charge 3rd partys less per game, like the competition does for royality. I donât know if royalitys is the right word, but you know what I mean.
So , if N drops that cost down to more reasonable for third party gamem makers HD cost would be less issue for them.
Anyway, HD is a option that I donât see a reason for not having IF the comptition is going to have it, they HAVE to keep up. And HD TV are ALREADY droping in price people.
The worst part about it during the N64 days was the Nintendo wouldn't switch to disks as it's medium. The reason? They manufactured the cartridges that they forced developers to use, many againts their will and others left Nintendo for this reason. REMEMBER SQUARESOFT? YEAH, ONCE A NINTENDO ONLY DEVELOPER. ASK THEM WHY IT TOOK THEM 10 YEARS TO TALK TO NINTENDO AGAIN. That's why I think Sony may be in some trouble with M.S. because they are making developement costs higher each time now and M.S. new system is really developer friendly. Back to HD though, just give me 480p and I'll be a very happy man.
I dont care what you guys say, I mean, do you realy think the world wants to pay 25 dollars extra for something half of them wont use??
Mabey next generation.
you see it doesnt MATTER what YOU think.
Or what I THINK.
But what the millions of people will think, or BUY. and face reality man, If N keeps up with not having the same features as the compitition
THERE WONT BE A NEXT GENERATION AFTER THE REVOLUTION!!!!!!!!!!!!
And that would suck ass.
True. Nobody has to sell us because I'm sure the majority of the users here will be buying a Revolution. But Nintendo hopes to reach a broader audience so they have to give THAT audience a reason to buy their system in addition to or instead of another system. I'm not saying HD is the answer but the more you take away, the less chance you have of attracting the non-Nintendo fan.
HD is just an option that some games will take advantage of.
It wont be as big a selling point as online and DVD players were this generation.
That said, Nintendo still needs to " keep up " like PSP said.
Not for our sakes, because we will buy it regardless, but for THIER sakes. They need all the help they can get in the console wars.
