DS Production
Nintendo has announced that they will produce roughly 20 million Nintendo DS units this year. On the same note, Sony announced they will not be producing 18 million Sony PSP units, but instead they will cut the production to 12 million Sony PSP units this year.Source: DS Advanced

All Sony needs to do to have t5he PSP outsell the DS is DROP THE HIGH PRICE TAG.
My mom bought me the PSP, I would not have afforded it.
So just wait, when the PSP is in the same price range as the DS, it will sell more than the DS could wish.
Also, when GTA PSP comes out it will sell MUCH BETTER than the Nintendogs.
I hope they fight, TO THE DEATH, so that BOTH systems will benefit with COMPITITION. The DS is making more 3d games and has FREE online because of PSP. so compitition is good.
One game should not sell a console. The DSs library of games and 3rd party titles on it mean that SONY will need more ideas to encourage buyers to get the console, instead of already bought PS2 games and Pr0n. im not a major fan of Nintendogs, although the idea is rather cool.
When deciding between the 2, DS won simply because of the touch screen and the fact Nintendo made it. PSP may do alot of stuff graphics, UMD, MP3, Camera, but the whole 3D games with a D-Pad? NO.
Anyways, keep up the good work Nintendo!

LOL! If Sony dropped the price tag on the PSP, they'd loose a huge amount of money. It's far cheaper to build a DS then a PSP. Hence the insane price of the system and games. $49 for a portable game is far, far too much. $39 alone is quite a bit . . . no need to price PSP games at half a grand.
I think the playstation public would rather use their money to buy a PS2 game. Most of the time you can grab a good game for $20.
PSP is for those who always have money in their pocket. It's price tag insanity.

No, not really. Nintendo even said that they weren't competing with the PSP. It's a whole different market. It's the GBA and GBA SP that's combatting it and they already have extremely large sales. Then we have the GBM coming out, which should sell like hotcakes. And, if you wish you COULD (*is in need of italics*) throw in the DS, which is selling more than the PS2 AND the PSP. The total would wipe out the PSP 50 billion times, even if they did lower the price of the PSP.

I really think, originally, the DS was created to take the wind out of Sonys handheld sales hopes while waiting for the Gbevolution to come out. And the DS has done MUCH better than N thought it would have, and is now more than just a tool to take the wind out of Sonys sails but a good handheld in its own rights.
So don’t be dumb. The DS was CREATED with intention to not only compete with the PSP, but to take sales away from it and wind out of its sales before the GBevolution is out. It just turned out to be more than a PSP deflaitor, it turned out to be a good handheld.
And YES IT IS A GAMEBOY. Or have you fools forgotten how many times you PLAYED GBA GAMES ON IT!!!!!!

The DS admitedly has pretty crappy games at the moment too, the only ones i have are mario 64, and kirby...the rest of the games out are just...well...thrown together crap.
The only reason DS is selling better is because Japan has the insanely popular Naruto (damn cartoon network for licensing anime in US and censoring and ruining One Piece (that's the name of an anime series)...they put a fucking sucker in place of his cigarette...AARAGAGGAG!!! and he sounds like a retard!!!) Games and nintendogs.
Once PSP comes down in price and there are some original games for it, it COULD outsell DS, but it's not likely...like was said earlier, 3d with a d-pad?!

Sorry guys but I'm gonna back PSP on this one. I'm a very big supporter of Nintendo, but I'll admit if Sony dropped the price of the PSP Nintendo would be in some big trouble as far as marketshare. Not maybe overall but at least in the marketshare. Let's face it; PSP is not that great but like it or not people are gonna buy the stupid thing and more people know it's name than the DS. It hurts me to say that but it's true. I wouldn't even mind if Nintendo upgraded the DS Power and came out with a newer model. I'd pay the difference if they'd allow some upgrade. Imagine the DS with the power of the PSP? Then the Sony people would shut up forever.
It's not about money right now with the handhelds people. I'ts about marketshare. If you just get enough people to buy one whether or not you lose money, eventually you'll be able to please those people and make a profit.
Ask Microsoft - they have yet to make money but do they care? No.
PSP is correct in saying that the DS was made to block the PSP from taking so much marketshare away until the next GBA. It was a smart move though. So PSP, you just answered your own question. Why did DS have weak games at launch? They came up with the idea quick to block Sony and the development kits weren't even out early enough to have good games ready.
I want to see Nintendo crush Sony. Just put them out of their misery. They can't rest on Nintendogs alone in the U.S. They've got awesome games coming but they could use few games with just killer graphics to go with the great gameplay. I hate to say it but even Nintendo should please the "graphics whores" once in a while. It would definitely sell some consoles and that's what Nintendo wants to do so why not? I'm just being objective here because the DS is not getting the recognition if deserves even if the sales numbers and good.
