No Third Party Sound and Music Engine for DS
I found this on Nintendo Insider:
"Nintendo Insider today revealed infomation that Nintendo is not allowing third-parties to create sound engines for the DS, stating that the DS`s ARM7 processor, which handles the Wi-Fi, touch screen, and audio. 'Has been excluded from direct access for commercial reasons.'
In order to create sound engines for the DS, the ARM7 processor would have to be taken apart in order to see what memory and function calls it uses. Without the ability to do this the developers will not be able to write their own music replayer, sound effect mixers, or even 'A decent music GUI for the musicians'.
According to Nintendo Insider, the majority of US and European developers are 'quite angry' and/or complaining about not being able to create sound engines for the DS. Developers are hoping that Nintendo`s stance will change.
'I have hopes they [Nintendo] will change it [their stance]... they say they our feedback into consideration,' said an anonymous developer.
