The Nintendo DS to be released in the US early next year?

I have been looking around the web and several sources say that the DS will be released in Japan late this year and the US and Europe early next year. Here are a few:

"The results are absolutely intriguing given that Japan is the only market where the two new handhelds will go toe-to-toe before the end of the year."

"He added that a new Game Boy was being devised in addition to the DS, but Nintendo's release strategy may rest on how well the DS performs in the market when it releases later this year in Japan, and early next year in the US and Europe."

I sure hope that they are wrong on this news, but these articles were released just hours ago while Nintendo's statements that said the DS would be released in the US and Japan late this year were released more then a month ago.
