Nintendo DS and PSP price rumors
Here is an article I found on Cubed-3 saying the PSP may be priced at $500!
Cubed³ recently reported that the DS was to be priced somewhere in the region of $199 or lower, whereas the Sony is supposedly aiming at the $250+ bracket with its PSP. However, CNN Money's 'Game Over' column has new news regarding what the actual price for the PSP could be.
Certain Industry analysts believe the new 'wonder' portable could début at around the $500 mark! In addition to this claim, the article points out how Sony is playing too many cards close to its figurative chest. Atari CEO Bruno Bonnell had this to say on the issue,
"What about the breakable aspects of it? If it breaks, can you bring it back and get another one for free? What about the movie strategy? The wireless strategy? The MP3 downloading? We don't know. What about the connectivity issues? We don't know. What about the video output? We don't know."
Whilst true, the same could well be said about Nintendo, although the Kyoto Company has apparently revealed just enough to keep many pundits satisfied for the time being. Bonnell reiterates that Sony is scared to release too many facts now since it would give away the planned high pricepoint, "$500 to start would be my guess." This contrasts starkly to EA CEO Larry Probst's recent comments that placed the PSP between $199 and $249.
Whereas many Nintendo fans would love the $500 mark to be true, it would be more sensible to expect Sony to try its hardest to bring that price down to something like $300 - a happy medium, but still too high to be honest.
Keep it locked to C3 for further news on the DS and PSP situation...
To me $500 seems a little out of the question, I am guessing around $200-$350
DS to be priced similarly with the GBA
I was hesitant to post this news about the DS pricing because I was not sure if it was true or not, but I did some research and emailed Cubed-3 about it and found out that it is actually true. Here is the news post that C3 posted:
Quick News - Nintendo President, Satoru Iwata has stated that in addition to looking to other manufacturers for extra LCD screens to prevent any shortages, the price of the Nintendo DS is to be in the same range as the GBA: SP - which is amazing considering the latest news on the PSP's pricing!
From that I would guess the DS price range is $115-$160 which is great!
