Sonic Rush
Adrenaline in your eyeballs in some stages while repetition in others. Sonic fans can rejoice as the franchise, at one point in danger of going the way of the dinosaur, has dipped into videogame rejuvenation. This must-have side scroller features great graphics and music, although, fanatics of the touch screen will weep as there is minimal but effective use of it. Sonic does not need a gun to reinvent itself; it just needed a good game and a somewhat gimmicky use of the stylus. The Sega teams deserves credit for only using it during bonus stages to make sonic go side to side to avoid enemies and collect coins in an attempt to grab some chaos emeralds, itâs the only reasonable use for it. As far the actual game, having Sonic jump from top screen to bottom is one of the best uses of the dual screens to date. At times itâs hard to keep up with the hedgehogâs ludicrous speed, but once you get used to it, you wall to move on to a faster lane. Now, letâs not get greedy, this game is not all perfect, some of the drawbacks are the lack variety of bosses, a few get repeated but with slight variation in setting and attacks. People love pre-rendered cut scenes, they help develop the story, unfortunately they are few and far between in this game. Also, it appears Sega was cutting back on voice-overs, the few phrases that are spoken in the game will get repeated at nauseam, so dust off your reading glasses plenty of text to get trough. Perhaps being a bit too picky but the selection screens looked like they were slapped on last minute so takes point away from the presentation.
Sonic Rush maybe the best side scroller in the franchise history, adding a scoring system to the newly added acrobatics Sonic can perform while in mid-air, is a fun twist. Fresh new music and dual screen spin dashes will have you playing for hours. Itâs a solid 8 but possibly 8.5. So letâs rush to pick up Sonicâ¦yes well Rush.
