Black DS Lite Fever Hits Japan

Nintendo did it again! Its black DS Lite has given the Japanese a bad case of "gotta-have-one" when it went on sale today. According to eyewitness reports, sales were so massive with lines 300 to 400 people long. At Bick Camera Ikebukuro store, new cash counters had to be opened to accommodate customers. You know how they say pictures are worth a thousand words? Let these images speak for themselves:

Nintendo WiFi Connection Reaches New Milestone

Thursday night, a DS owner unknowingly connected to the Nintendo WiFi Connection and became the 2 millionth unique user to utilize the service. Over 70 million different game sessions have been playing using the Nintendo WiFi Connection as well. This has all taken place in the span of nine months.

To put that into perspective, Xbox Live had 1 million users after 20 months and 2 million users after 32 months. Of course, it's a bit unfair to compare a full-fledged subscription based service against a free bare-bones service, but that's how the numbers stack up.

Hopefully Nintendo doesn't see this as a sign they don't need to improve. The Nintendo WiFi Connection has lots of things they need to work on! Especially if they want it to stay successful on their home console.

Spider-Man: Battle for New York Screenshots

Spiderfans, take heed! If your Spider-sense is tingling, then it just might be because of the new Spider-Man: Battle For New York screenshots that we have for you today. This update may be short but it's definitely sweet, and this game is looking very good graphics-wise. Also, the option of playing as either Spider-Man or the Green Goblin is very appealing.

One minor peeve, though: I think the Green Goblin looks like a small Hulk. He even comes with the requisite torn purple pants!Spider-Man: Battle for New York, from Activision and Torus Games, will hit stores in Fall 2006.

Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection Reaches 2 Million Users, More Expected As Star Fox Command Launches

After registering 2 million unique users, there seems to be no stopping Nintendo's Wi-Fi service as predictions of its continuous surging continue with today's launch of the heavily-anticipated title Star Fox Command for the Nintendo DS.

Star Fox Command marks the first-ever portable, Wi-Fi-enabled Star Fox game. Up to four players, be they friends or strangers, can meet up on Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection to blow each other out of the sky in white-knuckle dogfights. With the game's return to its original gameplay roots of intense dogfighting action, this is definitely a title that will bring in more people into the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection fold.

Final Fantasy III Is Now SOLD OUT In Japan

Should we say a day or a mere few hours? It doesn't matter, actually, because there is only one thing that we do know: Final Fantasy III for the Nintendo DS is now sold out. Yes, our dear gamers, it is THAT fast.

The dual screen remake of this Final Fantasy title which originally appeared in 1990 on the NES, is now making waves again. This time, as we all know, on the Nintendo DS.

Bic Camera, an electronics retailer in Tokyo's Yurakucho district, was swarmed with fans who lined up in front of the store just to get their own copies of the much-awaited game. Unfortunately, only some of the crowd walked away happy as there was not enough for everyone. We see this as just a temporary problem, though, because the game's publisher Square Enix must be really out of its head not to make more copies for the loyal fans.

Final Fantasy III is expected to be released in North America in November 14 of this year.

Coral Pink and Onyx DS Lites come to the States

Nintendo announced today that they will be releasing two new DS Lite colors in the Unites States on September 13th of this year. This announcement comes only after a few days of a similar rumor/speculation of these very same DS lites coming as well. The two colors are referred to the Coral Pink and Onyx variations. However, this is just Nintendo using pretty colors with pretty names. Calling a DS Lite a pink DS or a black DS just doesn't do it justice it seems.

So, to accompany the press release, they were very kind as to include some very high-resolution images detailing these two new colors coming to the States. So, if you have doubts about the color, these pictures are definitely worth you to look at - you can make out every detail on the DS Lite as if you had one right in front of you!

Yoshi's Island 2 info

Yoshi's Island 2 has been anounced for a long time now but recened box art has revealed that the game will be online! That's right, it looks like Yoshi's Island 2 is an online game! What will the online do? Nobody knows. The developer for this game is Artoon, who aren't exactly well known for great games.

Nintendo said people do not want online gaming or DVD drives. And now the DS/Wii have online play and the Wii has DVD playback. With all the online games for the DS, and DVD playback on the Wii, its funny how Nintendo never does what they say.

New Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl WiFi Details

CoroCoro Magazine has some new details on how WiFi works for Pokemon Diamond and Pokemon Pearl. Serebii.net has kindly done some translations. The WiFi play seems to be much more sophisticated than we first though. Check out what you'll be able to do!
  • There is an underground world named Shinou for WiFi and wireless multiplayer
  • You can hunt for Pokemon and/or items in Shinou with a friend
  • Shinou will be the primary location for fossils
  • Your secret base will also be in Shinou
  • You can play Capture the Flag against your friend. Both secret bases will have a flag which you must try to retrieve
  • Battle Tower has a Global WiFi Room
  • The Global WiFi Room has both a Global Battle Station and Global Trade Station.

Whether or not the Global Stations require friend codes is unknown, but it seems unlikely because each Pokemon Centre has its own WiFi room! Keep your fingers crossed! WiFi seems more interesting.

Pokemon diamond and Pearl are set for realse on September 28, 2006 in Japan.

Star Fox Command Sells Like Crazy

Looks like Fox McCloud still has quite a solid following as 20,000 units of Star Fox Command for the DS was sold on its first day of release. It's an impressive showing for the smaller Nintendo franchise and DS owners might just catapult the latest Star Fox game on top of the game charts. The nostalgia factor still plays a big part in the success of the latest installment of the Star Fox series.

Another factor that's been driving up the sales is the first batch of high review ratings from Famitsu and GameBrink. With game critics loving the game, we'd expect the same strong showing of Star Fox Command when it reaches the American shores on August 28.

Star Fox Command's story takes place after the events of Star Fox Assault. The Star Fox team is re-assembled to fight the new threat to the Lylat System. The game features more than 30 missions, multiplayer co-op and competitive game modes - the perfect recipe for a truly engaging handheld game.

Star Fox Command will be released in America on August 28.

E3 Downsized

Well after 12 years the ESA made the announcement that would change E3 for everyone. They have made E3 a smaller more "intimate" program with the developers and that the program instead of being held in its usual May date, it will now be held in July. E3 will still be open to the members of the entertainment community but the allowed attendance might be made smaller. E3 will still be held in the Los Angeles Convention Center. More information will be given out over the next few months.

A Prediction From 15 Years Ago!

When I first saw the title for this article I thought they were kidding, alas I was wrong. A kid wrote about his dream console, and most of its details. The console was none other than the Wii. Roughly the details were all correct, and the wierdest part is he actually mentioned a game title for the Wii which is one that we are all waiting for, Super Mario Galaxies. Check out the article below and prepare for your mind to be blown.

Square Enix announces Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime

Square Enix has announced Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime as part of it's North American Summer Line-up. Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime lets you play as Rocket, a slime hailing from Boingburg that has been tasked with the mission to save his fellow slimes from the hands of a mysterious cartrl called "the Plob". He must rescue more than 100 unique slimes, from which he can select a crack team of warriors to aid him in the heated tank battles.

To survive the monsters in the puzzle-filled levels, you must customize your slime and his abilities, as well as improve the tanks by equipping them with new weapons and items. You'll even be able to use alchemy to create rarer and even stronger ammunition. The DS’s dual-screen technology allows you to view the menus and the action simultaneously during adventure sections, and gives a unique view both inside and outside the tanks during battle sections.

If you're not satisfied with fighting battle alone, you can compete against your friends in Wireless DS Multi-Card action for up to four players. The DS Single-Card Download play feature also allows up to 16 players to enjoy the game at once.

Dragon Quest Heroes: Rocket Slime will be in stores across America this summer.

Another Nintendo Riddle

Nintendo has just released a new puzzle for Nintendo fans to try and figure out. It may have some information regarding the release date for the Wii.

"Perhaps the secret to the launch information for Wii is somehow encoded in the text of this news item. You might want to pore over it for a few hours before staying up all night.

Oct. 9: Clubhouse Games
Oct. 16: Nintendogs (Dalmatian)
Oct. 23: Magical Starsign
Oct. 30: Pokémon Ranger
Oct. 30: Children of Mana
Nov. 6: Elite Beat Agents
Nov. 13: Yoshi's Island 2
Dec. 4: Custom Robo Arena
Dec. 4: Kirby Squeak Squad

After looking at this I've seen that the word "pore" is in the wrong spot. They shouldn't have used "pore" the word that should be in its place is "pour" as a quick guess the first half of the word is part of "Po"kemon Rangers and the last half is in the release date for C"u"stom "R"obo Arena. Im not sure if theyre telling us that its between the dates for Pokemon Ranger which is October 30 and for Custom Robo Arena which is December 4. But, this is just alot of guessing on my part. Wii-X2 thought that the empty spots for release dates were a clue. If you have noticed every Nintendo game is usually released on a monday, all of these games are, but there are a few spots that are open including, October 2nd, November 20th, and November 27th. The rest of the December dates are left off because they didnt think Nintendo would release the Wii that late. Wii-X2 are guessing October 2nd because of the weird coincidence that when you put together the Roman Numerals VVII it spelles out "WII". Not to mention that the roman numeral V is 5 and I is 1, so when you put it together you get 5511, add both V's together and both I's together and you get 10 2 or the date, 10/2 so the date it shows is October 2nd. Might be going off the wall a bit but it is good decoding for them. All of what I am guessing and Wii-X2 are guessing is purely speculation, so dont believe the dates weve been given until Nintendo officially releases them. Stay with DSUpdate.net for any new developements for the Wii and DS.

Nintendo DS Goes over 21 Million Mark!

Article taken from Nintendo.com.

"Nintendo delivers on its promise to bring video gaming to the masses. In less than two years since its Nov. 21, 2004 launch, Nintendo has sold more than 21 million Nintendo DS™ systems worldwide. By comparison, Apple® shipped one million of its ever-popular iPod® music players in its first 19 months. The rate of Nintendo DS units being sold equates to 23 systems per minute – that's nearly one every two seconds – non-stop since launch.

"We're thrilled to be announcing this milestone today," says George Harrison, Nintendo of America's senior vice president of marketing and corporate communications, "especially since Nintendo DS was North America's top-selling video game system of any type in June. We attribute this success to Nintendo's overall strategy of offering something for everyone – from five-year-olds caring for their Nintendogs to 65-year-olds tuning their mental agility with Brain Age: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day."

Nintendo recently launched the new version of its popular portable system, DS Lite, featuring a smaller profile and more brilliant display. Beyond appealing attributes such as dual screens, a touch screen, a microphone and seamless Wi-Fi play, DS popularity also is being propelled by a unique mix of software that appeals equally to mainstream players and those new to the category.

The Touch Generations line of fun and accessible games for all ages and skill sets features the red-hot Brain Age™: Train Your Brain in Minutes a Day and Big Brain Academy™, as well as the enormously popular and innovative Nintendogs™. Nintendo DS sales success is also supported by video gaming sensations, New Super Mario Bros.® and Animal Crossing®: Wild World.

To satiate the video gaming palates of the 21 million Nintendo DS owners worldwide, Nintendo continues to increase its software offerings with Star Fox® Command, Mario vs. Donkey Kong™ 2: March of the Minis, Clubhouse Games™ and more games launching in the months ahead. Nintendo DS and DS Lite owners currently enjoy more than 130 Nintendo DS software titles – and 880 Game Boy® Advance software titles in single play mode – all playable on their portable DS systems."
